(UPI) - Texas
Gov. George W. Bush, the frontrunner in the race for the
Republican presidential
nomination, suffered minor injuries Monday when
he dove to avoid an oncoming
truck while jogging in Austin. Bush
spokeswoman Linda Edwards said the
governor suffered some bruises and
abrasions on his right leg and hip when
he dove out of the path of the
trailer truck near Town Lake, where he was
jogging during the noon
hour. Edwards said Bush, who is an avid jogger,
returned to the
governor's mansion after the mishap. She said he planned
to fly to New
Hampshire late Monday to continue campaigning in New England.
Edwards
said Bush is in "good condition and good spirits." Roscoe
Hughey, a state security officer, was also injured when he was hit by
flying
debris as he followed the governor on a bicycle, Edwards said.
He was taken
to an Austin hospital with non-life threatening injuries,
she said. Austin
police are investigating the accident.
