Obama Plans One of History's Great Crimes By Stephen
Lendman |
US history is ugly. It's disturbing. It's ruthless. It's deplorable. No nation ever matched it. None came close. Crimes of war, against humanity and genocide define it. Terror bombing is official US policy. Permanent wars cause mass killing and destruction. One nation after another is ravaged and destroyed. The late Studs Terkel (1912 - 2008) once said America views things through the prism of war. "(T)wisted (logic) encourages (US officials) to be willing, almost eager, to use military force," he said. Wars aren't just, he stressed. They're "lunatic" acts. They reflect madness. They're horrific by any standard. They're unjustifiable. Terror bombings are worst of all. During WW II, Dresden was mercilessly firebombed. It was defenseless. It was of no military importance. Hitler was defeated. War in Europe ended three months later. It didn't matter. Thousands of tons of incendiaries destroyed one of Europe's great cultural centers. Bodies of molten flesh explained what happened. Destroying Dresden was morally indefensible. So was firebombing Tokyo. War neared ending. Roosevelt spurned Japanese overtures to do so. On February 24, 1945, one square mile of Tokyo was destroyed. On March 16, another 16 square miles were incinerated. Tens of thousands died. Many more were injured. Over a million were left homeless. Five dozen other Japanese cities were firebombed the same way. Truman atom-bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki gratuitously. Japan wanted peace. Unconditional surrender was agreed on. Japanese officiala only wanted their emperor retained. Roosevelt categorically refused. So did Truman. They wanted Soviet Russia sent a message. US generals wanted to experiment with their new toy. They wanted to do so in real time. Hundreds of thousands died needlessly. Lower numbers did initially. They rose in succeeding months and years. Radiation poisoning kills. It causes grievous illnesses, disfiguration, and birth defects. They're felt today. Nuclear bombing Japan twice was gratuitous slaughter. It was one of history's great crimes. A prostrate nation deserved better. America wages wars without mercy. It's brutality is unmatched. Millions of corpses attest to its ruthlessness. Body counts mount daily. Since WW II, America's only enemies are ones it creates. It does so for unchallenged world dominance. Wars rage to achieve it. Terror bombings are prioritized. Humanity suffers most of all. Banned weapons are used. They include chemical, biological and radiological ones. No crime is too great to avoid. No-holds-barred savagery reflects official US policy. Afghanistan is America's longest war. It exceeds WW I and II in length. It could rage for another decade. Ordinary Afghans suffer horrifically. They struggle to survive. Many can't cope. One woman spoke for others saying: "We are miserable here." America bears full responsibility. Observers called America's war on Iraq the crime of the century. Terror bombings destroyed the cradle of civilization. Raping and plundering continues. So does permanent occupation. Ordinary Iraqis have no say. They're victimized. They're exploited. They're entirely shut out. Poverty is extreme. So are unemployment, malnutrition, repression, fear, human misery and daily violence. Toxic weapons caused an epidemic of birth defects and cancer. Miscarriages are frequent. Hundreds of newborns have cleft pallets, elongated heads, overgrown or short limbs, and other malformed body parts. Some are too gruesome to view. Deformed Iraqi newborns are commonplace. So are virtually every known illness and disease. They range from severe headaches, muscle pain and debilitating fatigue, to serious infections, cardiovascular disease, brain tumors and numerous type cancers. Libya's a cauldron of violence. On September 5, Patrick Cockburn headlined "Lawlessness and Ruin in Libya," saying: Militia fighters control much of the country. Oil production's way down. "Mutinying security men (took) over oil ports on the Mediterranean and are seeking to sell crude oil on the black market." "Libya has plunged unnoticed into its worst political and economic crisis since the defeat of Gaddafi two years ago." "Government authority is disintegrating in all parts of the country putting in doubt claims by American, British and French politicians that Nato's military action in Libya in 2011 was an outstanding example of a successful foreign military intervention which should be repeated in Syria." "Libyans are increasingly at the mercy of militias which act outside the law. Popular protests against militiamen" risk death. Anarchy defines today's Libya. International leaders ignore what's happening. Obama bears full responsibility. He plans repeating it. Syria's in the eye of the storm. Obama wants it ravaged and destroyed. He wants Assad forcibly removed. He wants him dead. He want vassal state subservience replacing independent Syrian sovereignty. Terror bombing could start anytime. Expect much more than officially announced. On September 5, The New York Times headlined "Pentagon Is Ordered to Expand Potential Targets in Syria With a Focus on Forces," saying: Obama ordered an expanded hit list. He wants more targets struck. It's unclear how many he has in mind. France agreed to partner with his aggression. More than cruise missiles are planned. US and French warplanes may be used. Reports suggest long range B-2 and B-52 bombing. Shock awe best explains what's coming. According to an unnamed senior national security official, planned air strikes will damage Syria more in 48 hours than insurgents did in two and a half years. Major civilian casualties are likely. Thousand may die. Many more will be injured. Countless numbers will be displaced. Coverup and denial will claim otherwise. Follow-up attacks may be ordered any time. Obama intends war whether or not Congress approves. He'll do so without Security Council authorization. He'll do it lawlessly. No nation may attack another except in self-defense. It may do so until the Security Council acts. It has final say. Russian and Chinese vetoes assure no lawless aggression authorization. It doesn't matter. Obama considers himself above the law. His entire agenda reflects it. He's out-of-control. He represents the worst of rogue governance. He plans war based on lies. No evidence links Syrian forces to chemical weapons use. Plenty show insurgents used them multiple times. Previous articles explained. On September 6, Itar Tass headlined "Syrian rebels use primitive elements of chemical weapons, Russian expert," saying: According to Institute of Middle East Studies president Yevgeny Satanovsky, "Syrian rebels possess primitive elements of chemical weapons and such elements have been used." "In fact, terrorist organisations reached a new level in technology status." Satanovsky "believes that the possible US strike on Syria is not linked with the country's willingness to hide the tracks of using chemical weapons." It's planned "because (America's proxy war) dragged on and (so-called) rebels were unable to (defeat) Assad’s resistance." "Without destroying major centers of the military infrastructure, militants will lose the war and their sponsors - Saudis, Qataris and Turks. (They'll) be in a tough situation." Obama wants the battlefield leveled. He wants Western-sponsored death squads given a tactical advantage. He wants Syria entirely ravaged and destroyed. He wants another imperial trophy. On September 6, Russia Today headlined "Putin: Syrian chemical attack is 'rebels' provocation in hope of intervention." Putin addressed reporters. He did so after G20 discussions concluded. He was clear and unequivocal. Assad had nothing to do with chemical weapons attacks, he said. Insurgents used them provocatively. They did so to wrongfully accuse Assad. They did it "to attract a foreign-led strike." There was no 50/50 split of opinion over attacking Syria, Putin stressed. He refuted claims otherwise. Only Turkey, Canada, Saudi Arabia and France support Obama's intervention plans. Britain's parliament opposed David Cameron's rage for war. Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Italy and other nations oppose military intervention, said Putin. G20 leaders spent the "entire" Thursday evening discussing Syria's crisis. If America and/or France launches an attack, Russia "will help Syria." "And we are already helping. We send arms. We cooperate in the economics sphere." "We hope to expand our cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, which includes sending humanitarian aid to support those people - the civilians - who have found themselves in a very dire situation in this country." No formal Putin/Obama meeting was scheduled. They met privately. They did so for about 30 minutes. Putin said it was "in a friendly atmosphere." Both leaders fundamentally disagree. Putin forthrightly called John Kerry a liar. He referred to his baseless accusations about Assad using chemical weapons. Kerry, Obama and other US officials lie. They do so repeatedly. They do it consistently. They do it to justify the unjustifiable. They do it to wage lawless aggression. They do it every time. Big Lies launch wars. Obama intends attacking Syria based on whoppers. Putin, other world leaders, and growing millions oppose him. Nothing matters more than that. Imperial madness risks potential annihilation. Averting it is top priority. Sustained mass opposition has the best chance to do it. At issue is preventing WW III. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
