As you read this series, you may notice it becomes harsher and more sobering with each successive part.  It’s like driving your car with all the red lights glaring at you, but you continue to ignore them until your engine dies.  It’s like an obese person who ignores his high blood pressure, diabetes and inability to walk—but keeps on eating pizza and ice cream until his heart explodes.  My guess: we’re only a decade or two away from horrific consequences unless we change course, stop mass immigration, change to alternative energy and move toward a stable society.  It will depend on the rest of the world doing the same.

You may have noticed the last several years with endless tornadoes, drought and now, Hurricane Sandy.  We humans, with our relentless fossil fuel burning, affect this biosphere in ever increasing consequences.  Or, you might say it responds to our arrogance and carelessness.

In this part 12, let’s deal with climate change, global warming or what I call: climate destabilization.  When I lived and worked in Antarctica 15 years ago, top scientists showed the global warming models and how they melted the polar ice caps at the time.  At this point, our over-heated planet with massive carbon output from fossil fuel burning 24/7—accelerates consequences as seen by Sandy.

From pre-industrial times, the air featured 275 parts per million of carbon.  Today, we slam into 350 parts per million.  www.350.orgwill give you an idea of how we impact Mother Nature.

As humans burn 84 million barrels of oil daily along with billions of tons of coal, wood and natural gas—we cook this planet faster and faster.  With another 3 billion humans in 38 years, we create even more ominous consequences as to fossil fuel burning and carbon build-up.  Bill McKibben of www.350.org said, “Hurricane Sandy is what happens when the temperature goes up a degree. The scientists who predicted this kind of mega-storm have issued another stark warning: if we stay on our current path, our children will live on a super-heated planet that's four or five degrees warmer than it is right now. This storm was literally unprecedented. It had lower barometric pressure, a higher storm surge, and greater size than the region had ever seen before. It's as out of kilter as the melting Arctic or the acidifying ocean. And if there were any poetic justice, it would be named Hurricane Chevron or Hurricane Exxon, not Hurricane Sandy.”

Yet, we expect to add 100 million immigrants within 38 years through our outdated immigration policy.  Every added person causes 10 to 30 times more impact on the environment when he/she reaches America.  Our civilization ignores this massive influx of humanity at its peril. As might be expected, if we average citizens fail to call for a moratorium on our 3 million legal and illegal immigrants, and their birth rates annually, we will not be able to sustain them or ourselves as to water, food, energy, resources and standard of living.  Worse, we will accelerate global climate destabilization to a point of massive droughts, storms, acidified oceans and worse.

The human race remains on course to make this planet uninhabitable for much of the 7.1 billion people now living on it on our way to 10 billion by 2050.

Ironically, men like Rush Limbaugh, who possesses no scientific background, convinces millions of Americans that “…climate change is a hoax.”  Rush doesn’t know his butt from a hole in the ground on this issue.  I do from my research and experiences in Antarctica.

At the same time, McKibben said, “The fossil fuel industry has spent over $150 million to influence this year’s election. Last week, Chevron made the single biggest corporate political donation since the Citizens United decision. This industry warps our democracy just as it pollutes our atmosphere.

Dear reader whether you are an American, Canadian, Australian or European, you need to take action via the social media in parts 3 and 4 of this series.  If we don’t change course, I don’t see how we will survive this “Human Sandy” pouring onto our shores 24/7.
