Dear Time Editors,
Re: "No, America is still number 1" by David Von Drehle, March 14, 2011
"America is still number 1!" said Von Drehle. Yeah, right! We're $13 trillion in debt, we suffer 15 million unemployed, 13.4 million children live below the poverty level, states like California run $26 billion in debt, 43 million Americans subsist on food stamps, 42 million Americans are functionally illiterate, we're engaged in two unwinnable and endless wars at $12 billion a month down the toilet, our politicians fail to serve American citizens' interests, our borders allow $100 billion in drugs to cross over annually, 15 to 20 million illegal aliens running around the country without documentation while working over 8 million full time jobs, millions of Americans face foreclosures of their homes, the dollar drops faster than a bungee jumper, we owe China $1.3 trillion in trade debt and we suffer a president and Congress totally unable to right our ship of state. We're still number 1! And my 89 year old mother can dunk a basketball better than LeBron James of the Miami Heat!
