Two More Avian Influenza H5N1 Cases In Egypt

Dr. Abdel Rahman Shahin, official spokesman of the Egyptian Ministry  
of Health, stated that the team monitoring the avian influenza  
A/(H5N1) epidemic has discovered 2 more cases of bird flu [avian  
influenza A/(H5N1) virus infection]. The 1st is a 25-year-old woman  
from Qena Governorate who died on 29 Dec 2010. The 2nd is a  
27-year-old man, a resident in Ismailia governorate, who is under  
treatment at an Ismailia hospital and is in stable condition.
This brings the number of cases to 118 and the number of deaths to 39  
since the onset of the outbreak in 2006.

Shaheen explained in a statement on Sat 1 Jan 2011 that the 1st case  
was a 25-year-old woman from Qena governorate who had died on 29 Dec  
2010. The 2nd is a 27-year-old man from Ismailia governorate, who is  
being treated in a hospital in Ismailia and remains in stable condition.
This brings the number of cases to 118 and the number of deaths to 39  
since the onset of the disease in Egypt in 2006.
