- The sedate journey between Antofagasta to Tocopila, a
route travelled by a contractor for a local company, was rudely interrupted
by the sudden apparition of a strange creature near the Gatico Cemetery,
some 50 kilometers to the south of the nitrate-producing port.
In the company of two town speople who accompanied him, the worker saw
that the creature was a hairy animal much larger than a dog.
The residents of Tocopilla immediately linked the strange creature to the
Chupacabras, since its aspect did not match that of any of the animals
known to exist in the area.
According to the contractor's wife--whose identity remains confidential,
as well as that of her husband-- her spouse described the strange event
to her on the following day.
"My husband told me that the animal was larger than a dog, with a
more massive body. Unfortunately, he was unable to see the creature's face."
She stressed that ther husband did not believe in the Chupacabras prior
to having this experience, but that following the events at Gatico, has
no choice but to believe that its existence transcends the confines of
myth
The wife detailed that on the morning after the encounter with the strange
creature, her husband returned to the scene of the events and, amazingly,
was able to find strange two-toed footprints in perfect alignment.
"The friends who went with him were able to vouch for this. They were
also astonished by the strange shape of the prints."
She stated that her spouse travels constantly, but now avoids doing so
at night in order to avoid seeing sights of this nature.
This is the second case involving a resident of Tocopilla who has had a
Chupacabras experience. The first one involved a local businessman who
saw a strange creature 20 kilometers to the south of the city.
Although sightings of the creature have occurred along different stretches
of the highway linking the port to Antofagasta, the fact is that something
linked to the Chupacabras is indeed prowling the road.
