- (CNNS) -- Puzzling circumstances surrounding
the reported indictment of David M. Hoffman, author of "The Oklahoma
City Bombing and the Politics of Terror" (Feral House, 1998)
continue to unfold.
-
- A report issued earlier today by this
news service had mistakenly stated that Hoffman had been indicted
for "stalking" by an Oklahoma grand jury probing the bombing
or bombings of the Alfred Murrah building, in Oklahoma City, on April
19, 1995. A more careful reading of the Associated Press article on
which our earlier story had been based discloses that Hoffman had not
been indicted for "stalking" by the Oklahoma grand jury.
BUT IT REMAINS TRUE, AS REPORTED BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, THAT HOFFMAN
APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN INDICTED BY THE OKLAHOMA GRAND JURY. ("Man
Indicted by Bombing Jury Speaks," AP, 01/01/99)
-
- The AP story does not mention what the
specific charge against Hoffman is.
-
- CNNS still stands behind its earlier
report that "It is now confirmed that Hoffman, author of 'The Oklahoma
City Bombing and the Politics of Terror' and a journalist associated
with the Haight-Asbury Free Press, appears to be the person named in
the sealed indictment." ("Confirmed: Hoffman Target Of OKC
Sealed Indictment," CNNS, 01/02/99)
-
- As reported by CNNS earlier today,
"Hoffman has probed, tirelessly and for dozens of months, evidence
that the Oklahoma City bombing(s) involved a wider conspiracy than Timothy
McVeigh and Terry Nichols, and evidence that more than one bomb destroyed
the Murrah Building in April of 1995."
-
- Further information on the developing
situation comes from Sherman H. Skolnick, chairman of the Citizens'
Committee To Clean Up The Courts, a public interest research group based
in Chicago. Contacted by Mr. Skolnick, this news service has learned
the following:
-
- REPORTEDLY: That the chief judge in
charge of the Oklahoma grand jury had stated, when the grand jury was
first empaneled, that "the grand jury should rightfully indict Charles
Key." (Charles Key is the crusading Oklahoma state representative
who has pushed relentlessly for an honest investigation into what happened
in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Representative Key wrote the Foreword
to Hoffman's book on the bombing(s).)
-
- FACT: That the same prosecutor
who had originally opposed Representative Key's push to empanel the Oklahoma
grand jury was thereafter put in charge of that same grand jury, and
seems to have thwarted an honest investigation into the bombing(s).
-
- FACT: That as punishment for
his good citizenship, Representative Key found himself harassed
by local Oklahoma authorities and local newspapers apparently hostile
to Key's efforts.
-
- REPORTEDLY: That David M. Hoffman's
lease on his apartment in Oklahoma City expired on December 31, 1998
and that Hoffman was in the process of moving to Washington, DC when
the grand jury's sealed indictment against him was handed up. Hoffman
had already, reportedly, left the apartment and had hired movers to
relocate his belongings. Where is Hoffman now?
-
- REPORTEDLY: That the chief judge presiding
over the Oklahoma grand jury had instructed the jurors not to look
at any press reports, radio reports, television reports, books, or magazine
articles dealing with the Oklahoma City bombing(s) case. Yet by subpoenaing
Hoffman, they basically subpoenaed his book and thereby violated
their instructions. This legal argument is made by an attorney who has
contacted Mr. Skolnick in relation to Hoffman's current troubles.
Since the grand jury apparently violated the instructions they'd
received from the judge, that could nullify any possible indictment
against Hoffman for presumed "jury tampering" or "obstruction
of justice."
-
- FACT: That Sherman Skolnick was collaborating
with David Hoffman on a planned, upcoming book. The planned book was
to expose facts behind the strange and numerous murders of persons
connected to Bill and Hillary Clinton. Skolnick had Hoffman as his guest
during two episodes of his popular television program, "Broadsides,"
during which Hoffman and Skolnick discussed the Oklahoma City bombing(s)
and the facts which Hoffman had unearthed while researching his
book, "The Oklahoma City Bombing and the Politics of Terror."
WHAT are the "politics of terror"? Might Hoffman and Skolnick's
researches pose a potential threat to some at the heart of the selfsame
"politics of terror"?
