- Some of you may recall my previous article
on Jeff's web site relating the strange synchronistic links between Aleister
Crowley, Zahi Hawass, and the Face On Mars (now in the archives at <www.sightings.com/ufo/crowleymars.htm.
I discovered this series of odd connections in the course of my research
into the paranormal/occult aspects of the UFO/ET phenomenon. This research
has continued and has revealed new discoveries. I thought I would share
some of them with you here. This paper will only briefly describe the findings.

- A note before we continue: My work involves
what some refer to as Serial English Qabalah; a kind of gematria or numerology
in which each letter of the English alphabet is assigned a number relative
to its place in the alphabet, e.g., A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on. In the case
of multidigit numbers the digits are reduced to a single digit by what
is known as "cross addition". For example, take the letter P
which is the16th letter. The 16 is reduced to the single digit 7 by adding
the 1 plus the 6. Therefore the numerological value of P is 7. Very simple.
Using this method has revealed some intriguing correlations between our
alphabet and some people, places and things, both modern and ancient. Another
significant element in my work is the number "9" which figures
prominently in some very esoteric ways. Speaking of which, it is important
to understand that we are not just dealing with the quantitative aspect
of numbers. We are operating under the assumption that numbers have a qualitative
essence about them, that they may contain intrinsic symbolic qualities
and may have a metaphoric relationship with the universe. Noting these
things, then, let us get back to our old friend Zahi Hawass.

- In the course of my alphanumeric musings
I found the series of numbers 1-8-9 kept popping up in various combinations
(1-8-9 or 9-8-1 or 8-1-9 or 9-1-8) and there have been some interesting
synchronicities attached to this series of numbers. For example, I noticed
in the entire alphabet there are only eight letters which have the value
of 1 or 8 or 9. Of those eight, four of them spell ZAHI, the first name
of our old buddy Zahi Hawass. Coincidence? Maybe, but what are the odds?
(Notice also, 1+8+9 = 18, or 9 when reduced by cross addition) Now, before
we leave the Egyptian realm, there is one more 1-8-9 synchronicity to mention.
It deals with that master occultist, Aleister Crowley.

- The text of "LIBER AL vel LEGIS",
otherwise known as "The Book Of The Law", was allegedly dictated
to Aleister Crowley by a non-human intelligence named Aiwass at Cairo near
the Great Pyramid in 1904. The synchronistic link here is that it was dictated
to Crowley over a three day period: April 8, 9 and 10 (8 - 9 - 1)! Coincidence?
What are the odds?

- Traveling now from the land of the Great
Pyramid all the way to the Jungles of Central America, we find a very intriguing
link between our English alphabet and the ancient Mayan culture; specifically
the grid matrix known as the Mayan Tzolkin. The Tzolkin is essentially
the matrix of13 numbers by 20 symbols which comprise what is known as the
Mayan Calendar.

- According to José Arguelles in
his book, THE MAYAN FACTOR - Path Beyond Technology, the Mayans employed
a binary numbering system which used "20" as its base. This system,
rather than progressing by tens as we are used to, progressed by a factor
of 20. In the first position a unit equals 1. In the second position a
unit then equals 20. In the third it progresses to 400 (20 x 20), in the
fourth it equals 8000, and so on. Arguelles also says the Mayans were not
so concerned with the sequential aspects of numbers as they were with the
relationships between numbers. To the Mayans numbers meant far more than
just a means of quantification. To them, numbers were symbols representing
the harmonic values and overtones of the dynamic energies of the galaxy.
In simple terms, numbers represent "the way life and the universe
work". Key to the Mayan system are the numbers 13 and 20. These two
numbers factored together, and equaling 260, form the great matrix known
as the Tzolkin. It is upon this 13 x 20 matrix that the entire Mayan philosophy
is based. The other key numbers are 7, 4, and 9. The number 9, to the Mayans,
symbolized the concepts of periodicity and completeness and also represented,
according to Arguelles, "the nine Lords Of Time", the original
Mayan galactic masters who may have come to earth to present us with a
KEY (see my Converted Tzolkin) to understanding the universe and our place
in it.

- As noted, besides the number 9, the number
260 was of utmost importance. This was the number of days in a cycle which
correlated to sun spot cycles and was at the foundation of their whole
system of prophecy.

- The number 260 interested me because
in terms of my own work it seemed out of place in a way. It's digits add
up to 8. It seemed most of the other multi- digit numbers which are generated
in the course of toying with Mayan mathematics have a single-digit value
of 9 (for example 360 or 144,000 and many others). In my own work, which
has revolved around the number 9 and the English alphabet, I was somewhat
bothered by the fact that the alphabet consisted of only 26 letters. The
single-digit value of 26 is 8. There had been so much "9" stuff
coming out in my work, it just seemed like it would all be quite complete
(in a neat and tidy sense) if the alphabet had just one more letter to
make it 27! The single-digit value would then be 9. But wishful thinking
wasn't going to change anything. There was either something wrong with
the picture or there was something I was just not seeing. Which was it?
Then I discovered two things which helped answer the question.

- I noticed that the first letter A (single
digit value of 1) added to the last letter Z (value of 8) equals 9! Likewise,
B (2) added to Y (7) equals 9! And the same for every paired combination
of letters working forward from the front of the alphabet and backwards
from the end of the alphabet: C(3)+X(6)=9, D(4)+W(5)=9, and so on all the
way to the center where M(4) meets N(5). Nice and neat!

- Secondly, this could be seen as a circle,
with "A" connected to "Z". A circle? Of 26 letters?
Yes! This harmonized with the idea of the Mayan 260 day cycle! Cycle-Circle!
26-260!

- I also learned from Arguelles that, in
a manner of speaking, the Mayans had a problem similar to my own. It seems
this system based on the 260-matrix was not particularly suited to the
planet Earth, at least in terms of computing basic cycles of time. So they
modified the system to more closely correspond to the annual revolution
of our planet around the sun. This modification brought the number 9 into
the picture in a big way as the modification involved changing the third
position number from 400 to 360, a multiple of 9! From this position onward
the base 20 progression now yielded units which were all multiples of 9
(1: 20: 360: 7200: 144,000: etc.).

- Now I was beginning to see that maybe
the English alphabet and the 9-series numbering system that I was using
was either a code or a cipher of some kind and, if so, what secrets might
it reveal? Could this be a KEY to unlocking some hidden messages encoded
within some ancient text? Would it help reveal information encoded within
certain words?

- Talk about synchronicity... On a whim
(or call it intuition), I decided to take the Mayan 13 x 20 matrix and
replace their numbers within the cells of the matrix with the letters of
the alphabet. Since the Tzolkin consisted of 260 units and the alphabet
consisted of 26 letters, I knew it would fit perfectly.

- The Mayans had numbered the cells vertically,
from top to bottom, starting in the upper left corner and ending at the
lower right corner. So it seemed logical to arrange the letters of the
alphabet in the same way (See my Converted Tzolkin matrix. The numbers
along the left side of the matrix do not relate to the Mayan system. They
simply represent my 9-series system).

- Imagine my surprise when the first thing
that popped out at me was the word "KEY" right there on the top
line; and, synchronistically, it appeared directly under the numbers 8,
9, 1. Was this just coincidence? What are the odds? Moreover, the word
"KEY" appears 9 times.

- One last thing to mention here regarding
the 1-8-9 series: Since my research focuses on the paranormal and occult
aspects of the UFO/ET phenomenon, it was perhaps inevitable I would eventually
get around to the infamous book known as the Necronomicon. This book is
controversial as horror writer H.P. Lovecraft (in whose stories the Necronomicon
was mentioned) claimed once that the Necronomicon is nothing more than
a fictional item dreamed up in his imagination for use in his stories.
Others claim it's mysterious origins are lost in antiquity. Whatever the
case, it has yielded some interesting numbers which fit nicely into the
framework of my research. In this case, however, I used the traditional
gematrian method whereby the numbers are not reduced to single digits.
This method often reveals a whole different level of symbolism.

- Using this method, I have determined
the gematrian values of the 50 names mentioned in the section of the Necronomicon
called "The Book Of The Fifty Names Of Marduk, Defeater Of The Ancient
Ones". This section opens with an interesting passage. It reads:

- "This is the book of MARDUK, begotten
of our Master ENKI, Lord of Magicians, who did defeat TIAMAT, known as
KUR, known as HUWAWA, in magick combat, who defeated the Ancient Ones that
the Elders may live and rule on the Earth".

- Besides the 50 Names, (each Name, by
the way, is supposed to be the name of a "power" or "god"
by which MARDUK could ward off the Ancient Ones, the masters of chaos),
there is a "MAGICKAL WORD" which accompanies each Name. I was
interested in seeing what numerological relationships there might be between
each NAME and its corresponding MAGICKAL WORD. There were a number of interesting
results but perhaps the most intriguing was this:

- The fortieth of the fifty Names is DUMUDUKU.
The accompanying Magickal Word is ARATAGIGI Here's how the numbers came
out: DUMUDUKU = 116 ARATAGIGI = 73 116+73 = 189

- You'll recognize the 189 from the discussion
above. What is interesting about this is what the Necronomicon has to say
about the name, DUMUDUKU:

- "...Knower of the Secret Name and
the Secret Number."

- Is 189 the "secret number"?
Is all this just chance? Just coincidence? Or is it meaningful synchronicity?
What can it all mean? You'll have to decide for yourself. As for me, I'm
just going where the research leads.
