Relentless NYT War On Trump & Russia |
By Stephen Lendman |
The self-styled newspaper of record is a lying machine, a national disgrace
- all the news most important to report suppressed, fake news substituting. On February 7, The Times blasted what it called “bromance” between Trump and Putin, calling it “a source of puzzlement and alarm in the West, (now) even more disturbing.” Fact: Russia threatens no other nations, hasn’t attacked any - in contrast to forever US imperial wars, responsible for millions of casualties Times reports never explain. Fact: Putin is a preeminent world leader, overwhelmingly supported by Russians, a world peace and stability champion - polar opposite a long line of warrior US presidents, perhaps Trump the latest though it’s too soon to know. The Times criticized Trump’s comments aired Sunday on Fox News, taking issue with US imperial policies, saying “it’s better to get along with Russia than not.” It was refreshing to hear a US president level criticism where it’s long overdue, even without elaboration, while saying he’d like to get along with his Russian counterpart. Not according to The Times, ludicrously saying: “Asserting the moral and political superiority of the United States over Russia has not traditionally been a difficult maneuver for American presidents.” “But rather than endorsing American exceptionalism, Mr. Trump seemed to appreciate Mr. Putin’s brutality - which includes bombing civilians in Syria and, his accusers allege, responsibility for a trail of dead political opponents and journalists at home - and suggested America acts the same way.” Fact: As usual, The Times has things backwards. America is a ruthless hegemon, waging war on humanity, unable to claim moral superiority on most every geopolitical and domestic issue. Fact: It forces its political will on others, threatening all sovereign independent nations with regime change - by color revolutions, old-fashioned coups, state-sponsored assassinations or aggressive wars. Fact: Brutality describes the policies of a long line of US warrior presidents. Putin is polar opposite, respecting the rights of all nations and the Russian people - why he’s overwhelmingly popular. Fact: He bombs terrorists, not civilians in Syria. He doesn’t eliminate political opponents, journalists or anyone else at home or abroad. He supports rule of law principles. US policies are polar opposite. The Times: “There’s no doubt that the United States has made terrible mistakes, like invading Iraq in 2003 and torturing terrorism suspects after Sept. 11.” Fact: The same imperial agenda before Washington’s 2003 war on Iraq targeted the country in 1990-91, the former Yugoslavia throughout the 1990s, Somalia, and Afghanistan, followed by endless wars on Libya, Syria, Yemen, Donbass aiding Kiev putschists, and partnering with Israeli wars on Palestine. Fact: The Times supports all US wars of aggression. In the run-up to Bush/Cheney’s war on Iraq, it ran daily front-page feature stories - virtual Pentagon press releases, manipulating public sentiment for war. Fact: Endless US war still rages against Afghanistan since beginning in October 2001 - a nation having nothing to do with 9/11. Fact: All US wars since WW II were and continue against nations posing America no threat - unexplained by America’s “newspaper of record,” supporting imperial lawlessness instead of denouncing it. The Times: “American drone strikes against extremists in Afghanistan and Pakistan…have sometimes killed civilians.” Fact: It’s virtually always. Few so-called high-value targets are killed. Noncombatant civilians comprise the vast majority of casualties. Fact: US drone wars constitute naked aggression against nations posing no threat to America - except what Washington invents to justify the unjustifiable. The Times: “(N)o American president has done what Mr. Putin has done in silencing nearly all independent media, crushing dissent, snuffing out Russia’s once-incipient democracy, invading Ukraine, interfering in the American election - apparently on Mr. Trump’s behalf - and trying to destabilize Europe.” “At least in recent decades, American presidents who took military action have been driven by the desire to promote freedom and democracy…” Fact: All of the above is utter rubbish! America’s agenda is all about achieving unchallenged global dominance by brute force - endless wars waged to achieve its objectives, democracy verboten at home and abroad, fundamental freedoms fast disappearing. The Times: …”Trump has shown little support for America’s traditional roles as a champion of universal values like freedom of the press and tolerance.” Fact: American “values” threaten life on earth. If a way isn’t found to stop its war on humanity, perhaps we’re all doomed. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. He can be reached at lendmanstephen@sbcglobal.net.
