From KSBY-TV, San Luis Obispo
"The United States Geological Survey said that Friday's quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.1. The epicenter of the temblor that struck at 8:20 p.m. was thought to be around 10 miles north-northeast of Ridgecrest at a depth of 0.9 kilometers, or around a half-mile, the agency said."

Last Thursday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit California near the city of Ridgecrest, about 240 kilometers (150 miles) North-East of Los Angeles. The quake happened at a depth of roughly 11 kilometers (7 miles). This sizable tremor turned out to be a foreshock.
The following day at 8:19pm local time, a 7.1-magnitude quake hit roughly in the same area but at a much shallower depth (only 0.9 kilometers/0.56 miles). This was the strongest earthquake in California in the last 20 years, and was also felt in the neighboring state of Nevada and all the way down to Mexico. Houses and roads were damaged, with some "minor to moderate" level injuries but no fatalities.

From google search...the quake depth is said to only have been 0.56 miles...
"The (7.1) quake was the largest one in the current seismic swarm, hitting at 8.19pm local time just outside Ridgecrest, which is located roughly 240 kilometers (150 miles) north-east of Los Angeles. It was quite shallow, happening at just 0.9 kilometers (0.56 miles) below the Earth's surface. It was preceded by a sizable foreshock measuring 6.4 in magnitude, which occurred a day and a half before and came from deeper within the Earth."
But in this story, the depth is put at 10.6 miles...

We have an entirely different depth noted...
(In fact, the 6.4-magnitude quake began at a depth of 6.6 miles, or 10.7 km, while the epicenter
of the BIGGER quake was much deeper, some 10.6 miles, or 17 km, beneath the surface.)
This report claims the depth was about 5 miles deep...

Depth of the Ridgecrest quake was 8.0 km.
Very shallow. Just under 5 miles deep. 4.9.
And a follow up states that the uplift was 3 and 1/2 feet.
