Anti-Coup Rage in Brazil

By Stephen Lendman

America’s rage for global dominance puts democracy where still existing at risk. US imperial policy wants tyranny replacing it everywhere - institutionalized at home, spreading increasingly abroad, Brazil the latest domino to fall.

Telesur reported anti-coup protests in dozens of Brazilian cities. Fascists in charge unleashed police state violence against them.

The hashtag #ForaTemer is circulating widely via Twitter - one tweet saying “Sao Paulo burns as police water-cannon shuts down #ForaTemer demo against” him.

Another said “#Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff impeached. Devastating news for democracy in Brazil & Latin America.”

One more said “Brazilian democracy in crisis. 54 million votes overturned.”

Numerous other tweets expressed similar outrage. On Wednesday, tyranny triumphed with considerable US.

State Department spokesman admiral John Kirby expressed support for coup-plotters, claiming the criminal cabal ousting Rousseff acted “in accordance with Brazil’s constitutional framework,” adding:

“We’re confident that we will continue the strong bilateral relationship that exists between our two countries as the two largest economies in the hemisphere.”

Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela recalled their ambassadors in protest. Caracas froze all political and diplomatic ties.

Ecuadorean President Rafeal Correa twittered “(t)hese unfortunate events, unacceptable in the 21st century, pose a serious risk to the stability of our region and constitute a grave setback in the consolidation of democracy.”

Correa survived two earlier US-orchestrated coup attempts to oust him - in 2010 and 2015 - failing to transform Ecuador into a fascist police state the way it succeeded in Brazil.

Venezuela since Chavez’s ascension to power survived various US plots to replace Bolivarian fairness with tyranny - a matter of time only until the next attempt unfolds.

US-orchestrated efforts leave it vulnerable to greater destabilizing disruption than already and President Maduro’s possible removal by foul means.

A Cuban Foreign Ministry statement “strongly reject(ed) the parliamentary and judicial coup d’etat perpetrated against President Dilma Rousseff” - Brazil’s democratically elected leader.

What happened from May through August 31 “is another expression of the offensive of imperialist forces and the oligarchy against the revolutionary and progressive governments of Latin America and the Caribbean which threatens the peace and stability of nations,” it said.

Lawlessly ousting her defied “the sovereign will of the people who voted for her.” Russia earlier blamed “foreign interference” for efforts to remove her - pointedly meaning Washington in less than so many words.

A 2015 document reported by various Russian news agencies addressed possible CIA plotting against her.

BRICS nations Brazil (until Rousseff’s ouster), Russia, India, China and South Africa pose a significant threat to US hegemonic interests, including efforts to create a new world reserve currency - in lieu of the dollar, a badly needed initiative whose time is long overdue.
