Trump Threatens Europe?

By Stephen Lendman
3-10-17

NYT editors absurdly say so - claiming he’s “shown higher regard for President Vladimir Putin…than for NATO or the European Union.”

The self-styled newspaper of record is ground zero for media misinformation. It keeps finding new ways of making itself a laughing stock, publishing rubbish and fake news instead of what readers most need to know.

The only threats America and European nations face are ones they invent as justification for endless aggression, targeting nations threatening no one, wanting independent governments replaced with pro-Western puppet regimes.

EU foreign and defense ministers announced plans for establishing a joint command center for military operations - a so-called Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC), headquartered in Brussels, independent of NATO, headed by the EU military staff chief.

The idea was under consideration for years. It resurfaced in the wake of false accusations of (nonexistent) “Russian aggression.”

Britain opposed the idea. Germany and France support it. Fears about lesser Trump commitment to NATO unless they share more of the cost burden are unfounded.

After meeting with Trump in late January, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said he’s “100 percent” committed to the alliance, adding “we are united in our recognition of NATO as the bulwark of our collective defense…”

The EU plan is step one toward establishing a European army, independent of NATO, likely dominated by Germany, intended for offense, not defense, creating a separate imperial center of power - one in Washington, the other in Brussels, posing a greater threat to humanity than already.

The European Commission, saying EU nations must take care of their own security sounds like cover for greater militarism at the expense of fast disappearing social justice - what’s been ongoing in America since the neoliberal 90s, EU nations increasingly following suit.

Times editors saying “Europe seems to see Mr. Trump as a threat to stability forged through rules” is utter rubbish, part of relentlessly bashing him for the wrong reasons, not the right ones.
