NYT on North
Korea |
By
Stephen Lendman |
Post-WW II, North Korea has been victimized by US aggression, unacceptable
sanctions, and ruthless vilification. The Times and other media scoundrels maintain the deplorable official narrative - ignoring US imperial harshness, instead blaming the DPRK for high crimes committed against the nation and its people, no end of it in sight, perhaps another war of aggression coming. The Times is a lying machine, truth-telling on vital issues banished from its pages, especially on vital geopolitical issues. It wages editorial war on all sovereign independent nations Washington wants transformed into virtual US colonies. Notable targets include Syria, Iran, Venezuela, Russia, China and North Korea, among others - disinformation and fake news its specialties. The Times: “(L)ike an adult trying to carry on an intelligent conversation while a child is having a tantrum, (South Korean) President Moon Jae-in…tried to resume direct engagement with Pyongyang, which was cut off nearly two years ago.” Fact: North Korea is a sovereign state, not a “child…having a tantrum.” Its nuclear and ballistic missile programs are essential deterrents to feared US aggression. Without them, it’s defenseless. Kim Jong-un said he’s open to dialogue with Seoul, agreed to restore communication with Moon’s government, as well as having North Korean athletes compete in February’s Winter games. The Times: “There is reason to be wary of Mr. Kim’s intentions, given his history of ruthlessness and threats to launch a weapon against the United States.” “By expressing interest in talks with South Korea, Mr. Kim may be trying to drive a wedge between” Moon and Trump. Fact: Instead of welcoming Kim’s outreach with a nation virtually colonized by Washington since WW II, the Times bashed him, suggesting a nefarious ulterior motive for his willingness to engage in diplomacy with Seoul. The Times: “(T)he United States…defended South Korea in the Korean War…” Fact: The south attacked the north, not the other way around, Harry Truman’s war, naked aggression against a nation wanting peace and recognition of its sovereignty. A virtual state of war still exists, an uneasy armistice remaining after all these years, Washington refusing to formally end the conflict it launched - killing millions of North Koreans, turning much of the country to rubble, US pilots saying they ran out of targets to terror-bomb. The Times: “Some (unnamed sources) fear that as part of any dialogue, South Korea could make too many concessions, like agreeing to end military exercises with the United States or no longer participating in sanctions.” Fact: Military exercises are hugely provocative, Pyongyang right in saying they’re rehearsals for war. Sanctions are counterproductive and outrageous - harming ordinary North Koreans enormously, encouraging its government to continue developing its nuclear and ballistic missile deterrents. As long as bipartisan neocons infest Washington, North Korea will remained threatened by possible US aggression. VISIT MY NEW WEB SITE: stephenlendman.org (Home - Stephen Lendman).
