The NYT Gives
Feature Op-Ed |
By
Stephen Lendman |
The Russophobic NYT unsurprising featured an anti-Russia commentary by
hardline Wilson Center fellow Nina Jankowicz - discussing Russian media
truth-telling she disgracefully called “information war.” Operating as a press agent for wealth, power and privilege, The Times turned truth on its head, calling RT “the most effective propaganda operation of the 21st century so far.” Jankowicz is a right-wing extremist, spuriously calling RT and Sputnik “fake news” - a NYT speciality, along with the rest of America’s deplorable media. She quoted self-styled “information warfare expert” Molly McKew, claiming Russian English-language media operate “deep within (America’s) shadow space…” Make sense? Of course not. RT and Sputnik report real news, information, and analysis, polar opposite Western media rubbish. Jankowicz urges countering nonexistent Russian “disinformation” by “molding…people’s minds,” including in school curricula, starting when children are very young - brainwashing them by any standard, continuing the process in adulthood, getting corporate America involved. She advocates waging information war against Russian truth-telling, short of banning RT and Sputnik altogether, a disturbing possibility. Dark forces in Washington want them undermined, their content censored, maybe shut down on the phony pretext of protecting national security - a flagrant First Amendment violation if censorship or banishment is ordered. Companies providing services to RT America must now register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), an out-of date pre-WW II relic. The FBI is investigating Sputnik, checking for nonexistent FARA violations, these hostile actions typical of how police states operate. For the last half century, no one was convicted of violating the law. It’s unrelated to regulating or otherwise targeting foreign media. Jankowicz is a Russophobic imperial agent, calling truth-telling “disinformation,” wanting it countered, short prohibiting RT and Sputnik from broadcasting in America. Their increasing popularity shows they provide an important service - real news, information and analysis, polar opposite the fake kind featured in the NYT and other Western media.
