The California Earthquake -
Coming May 10th?

One of the most famous predictions of one Michel de Nostradame, better known to most people as Nostradamus, has, thus far, failed to materialise.

Quatrain 83 of Century 9 states :

The sun in twenty degrees of Taurus there will be a very great earthquake. The great theatre full up will be ruined, The air, the sky and the land darkened and troubled. Then the infidel will invoke God and the saints.

Nostradamus is, at best, ambiguous, esoteric and enigmatic, At worst, completely unfathomable. He has, however, on many occasions, been proved to be correct, and in light of this fact the preceding quatrain is worth closer scrutiny. The first line gives a precise dating. As the twelve sun signs corresponding to the year form a 360 degree circle, each sign represents 30 degrees, with each degree, therefore, representing one day. Nostradamus tells us that the sun is in "twenty degrees of Taurus" meaning twenty days after the sun enters Taurus on April 21st. The date he is giving is May 10th.

Line two of the quatrain is interesting when you consider Nostradamus wrote his predictions during the first half of the sixteenth century and published them four hundred and forty six years ago. Could the phrase "The great theatre" be trying to describe Los Angeles, the movie capital of the world. To a man in the sixteenth century a vision of the huge sound stages and movie studios that sprawl from Santa Monica Boulevard northwards through Hollywood to Burbank in the San Fernando valley could well evoke a "great theatre". It may also be possible that Nostradamus is, in some way, attempting to describe a very modern innovation that once again places the quatrain in California. The world wide web, and the hi-tech offices of Silicon valley, the computing centre of the world and therefore the hub of computerised information throughout the world, could indeed seem to equate with a "great theatre" to a man living in Nostradamus's time.

There has been no major earthquake on the10th of May since Nostradamus published his predictions in 1555. It therefore begs the question, has Nostradamus seen a future Californian earthquake? If this is what he is describing in this quatrain, May 10th. this year could perhaps see one of the most catastrophic events of modern history. It is a scientific fact that earthquake and volcanic activity around the world has increased dramatically over the last three years, and over the last six months there has been an unprecedented rise in seismic events around the globe. Those scientists studying the San Andreas fault line that runs the length of California are all of one accord when it comes to what Californians call "The Big One". It is no longer a question of IF it will happen, simply a question of WHEN.

The consequences of a major earthquake along the San Andreas fault line are too frightening to contemplate. The Turkish earthquake of August 13th. 1999 killed 20,000 people. A similar earthquake in California could kill millions. We live in a world where cynicism and scepticism abound. Where people in the western world think nothing will change dramatically, the status quo remains, life goes on and things just keep getting better. Those who try to put an alternative message across or quote from the scriptures or Nostradamus are denounced, yet anyone with half a brain looking at the world around us can see that things are not as they should be. A change is coming. Perhaps sooner than we imagine.
