- TETERBORO, N.J. (Reuters)
- Quest Diagnostics Inc., a provider of gene-based medical testing, information
and services, said on Tuesday that it and the Center for AIDS Research
at the Stanford University School of Medicine have found strain of HIV-1
that is resistant to antiviral drugs.
-
- The strain has reduced susceptibility to reverse transcriptase
inhibitors, a class of antiviral drugs, Quest said.
-
- Identification of this new mutation gives physicians
additional information that allows them to better target effective treatment
of HIV-1 in their patients, Quest said.
-
- The findings, which were published in the November Journal
of Virology, are being used by Quest to report laboratory results for its
HIV-1 genotyping test, the company said.
