What Matters To You

Why do we have elections? Does it matter if there is no choice? Has anyone noticed that the political conventions have not been held, and already the parties have decided who the candidates will be with almost no input from any of the largest groups of real people: Does this matter? Hell no how can it matter when people don't actually matter at all, to either of the major political groups, or in any other context in the USA today. We are officially nothing. Welcome to the world of zero influence!

Is there such a thing as "we" in America today? No, there is only "Me, Myself and I." This is the lesson that we took from the Me First Generation of the Reagan years. "Be a taker only suckers worry about everybody else." So began the destruction of the term "we," and the collapse of the society that goes hand in hand with all of that.

When a society cares about its members, then "we" has meaning. When any society stops caring about individuals as people, then the meaning in "we" is lost. In the last 40 years, people in the USA have deleted "we" in favor of the three faces of the self (I, Me, & Mine). And thanks to our newfound hipness, there is no longer any point in going through the motions that once defined the Republic, as we are now a one-party state: The party of Power. The money's been raised, and it's being spent, but come on people: Anyone who has lived through the last four years and still doesn't know who they hate and what they want to see changed, has to be mentally deficient or sharing in the pleasures of the troughs.

A few years ago that I wrote the following, as part of an Open Letter to the Congress:
"You are collectively about to grant an open-ended hunting license to The Commander-in-Chief, in perpetuity. IF you do this you will individually and collectively be held responsible by history and by the citizens of the world, for your arrogant desecration of the rules of all recognized ethical behavior and international conduct. In brief you will officially be opening that Pandora's Box that contains the chaos, the rebellion, the hatred and bigotry that this world has tried for centuries to contain.

Please make no mistake: What you are about to do is a cowardly act, and IF you do it you will be giving Bush a License to Kill on a global scale.

Since this man came to office, the Congress of the United States has failed in its duties to the public you are sworn to serve, and to the Constitution you have sworn to uphold. In instance after instance you have entertained and passed a steady stream of un-American laws and Resolutions that are squarely aimed at undermining the Constitutional provisions of the Bill of Rights and many of the Amendments to the Constitution, which are matters of existing law.

You were elected to the offices you hold to exercise your best judgement in dealing with matters of state, of defense, and of the national welfare. You have failed to do what you were elected to do. Those failures have brought this nation and the world, much closer to the brink of chaos than was here-to-for ever thought possible. This has happened because despite your vast individual experience and your official reputations you have allowed your greed and fear to dictate and control your votes, on all issues that have come before you.

The failures of George W. Bush will cause history to cringe from the mention of his name in coming days. It is up to each of you, as to whether the Congress of the United States will share the infamy that Bush is creating with his beyond-the-pale policies both at home and abroad."

This condemnation of the Congress and the Commander-in-Chief was too tame. They gave him this unprecedented right to maime and murder whomever he liked, despite the protests of millions and millions of people.

Since then several major new pieces of news, that directly affects all our lives, has come across the airwaves. There is the fact that the nation is now in debt $34.625 trillion, which is an impossible figure to ever deal with. Couple this with, that for the last fifty years elements of this society have been hell bent on changing the underlying connections from what unites us, to that which betrays us all. What we're seeing now is the full flower of their soul-killing plans. See how Tyranny Came into America: http://www.sobran.com/tyranny.shtml

Our military, as was predicted has been badly used and is now demoralized. In addition it seems that all the principals that were once part of being an American soldier, are no longer part of the training. Trainees are taught to see themselves as shining knights of honor, on the home front, while becoming pure killing machines whenever it comes to the people of the countries they are called on to attack. This leads directly to a two-track purpose that tries to live in total contradiction. The trainee is to disregard the truth of those they've been assigned to murder but this matters not whenever the Empire is threatened, because these troops are our first line of defense in all things. http://www.counterpunch.org/white07132004.html

Viable societies have always been hinged on worthwhile employment, and on an expectation of health and well being, as well as on a decent respect between and among their people. In America there were once careers in many fields of choice. This led to variety and to possibilities unheard of in most other countries. Today, there are just jobs that too often are not long enough to qualify for any benefits, careers are a thing of the past and this has made us a nation of part-time workers.

Once there was an expectation for a decent return on investment, when it came to literal work, not just in the stock market. But as we have watched our jobs being exported, and the benefits to management skyrocket, the actual pay of those who do the work shrinks every month. Add to this the intrusion at every level, by corporate rules in most larger offices today: for everything the worker eats, drinks, wears, thinks or does, not just at work; but in their private lives as well. One long look at thatand we know that none of us are free. This has been pushed beyond expectations to the point that there are now so few real jobs left that to claim that we are creating anything like a real job, is a total farce.

Couple the above with assaults at every level of our lives from banks and faceless corporations, through every service that we signed for; and soon one wonders why we live at all because after everything is paid for, there is simply nothing left for most of those who labor here and no amount of spin can alter that!

The designers of this criminal plan have undermined our health and welfare at every level. Government and privatized interests, consciously planned all of this, and have in many cases totally succeeded in isolating vast numbers of us from both the society at large and from ourselves as well. It's perfect for their purposes, but it's a living hell for most of those who made the profits possible. Part of the price we paid for deleting "we."

They began by undermining language itself, and by re-prioritizing what should be important to everyone involved. They changed what is most important in the everyday lives of people. In the workplace, in the courts, in medicine, in entertainment and in advertising the messages are clearly phrased. We are never to be seen again as whole people, but always as compartmentalized projects that are be 'fixed' or added to, like any other broken piece of machinery. 'Goals' are now something decided by corporate boards, or stockholders, and goals are no longer the province of regular people or concerned citizens. Only major monetary interests need apply.

When people are seen as machines, they can be treated like machines. The primary marketing example is of how broken we are and therefore how much direct help each of us will always need, just to participate in the perfection of this society again. No thought is given to the messages between the advertising lines which is that we are nothing at all, except imperfections in need of repair, or overhaul, at any time. After the cold war, government and private industry created new enemies for us all to fear "Them." This brought us insecurity and fear, and with that we watched our rights and freedoms disappear in direct proportion to the sell-out by the media and this isolation has brought us all to the brink of global war.

Compartmentalization can be crippling to anyone trying to simply live a full and productive life. It has been through that artificial separation, that all these changes have been made. Being alive demands involvement in the larger society, not as a worker bee, a "team player" or as part of a hive but as a person, with a mind and self-determined values that go well beyond corporate rules and regulations. Being an American is about having a real and productive life that is fulfilling in itself, and one that is worth living.

But the 'new ethic' looks to Team Players to enforce their dictates. This worked well to make killing machines out of recruits, and it's perfect for corporate players in a world that has no time for the ethics of human beings, even as customers.

To accomplish this transition, government and private industry set out to destroy reality and replace it with artificial needs and desires that have nothing to do with either living or success. It's taken nearly fifty years but it now fits their bottom-line, like a velvet glove that is slipped over a steel fist. By removing the real threads of trust and belief in this society, and by replacing those touchstones with the childish rules of corporate life, our would-be dictators try to obscure who we really are, and what should matter to each and every one of us always.

Any successful society is dependent upon their responsibilities to one another and to the laws that are meant to keep us all together as a people; thee original concepts were never designed to drive us apart. Yet that is exactly what this new world order is all about, the alienation of people everywhere, first from each other and then from all other people everywhere. And like every dictatorship before us, this idiocy of theirs simply cannot succeed.

What does this come down to in the end? We're now a fearful and distracted population, and as strangers to each other, we have become perfect targets for a takeover. If we were employed, and well adjusted then we would not be open to these tawdry schemes. But we are no longer the people that we were; because our actions no longer match our words, and besides we seem to prefer ignorance to knowledge. http://www.douglasvalentine.com/article_security.html

It all comes down to what matters to you. Do you care that no one listens to anything you say? Does it matter that you no longer really have a job, because you're only there as long as it's convenient to those who pull the strings? Does it bother you that Bush can send your loved ones anywhere, for as long as he wants, and get them killed or maimed - for nothing but another lie? Oh, but the elections coming soon where the choice is between, a nothing and a zero wow, now there's a real solution for the masses!
