- KIRKUK -- Two Iraqi policemen
in Kirkuk were killed today by US gunfire in a case of mistaken identity,
said the police chief of the northern oil city.

- "US forces have admitted killing two Iraqi policemen
by mistake and said that they have opened an investigation," said
General Turhan Yussef.

- He said that a US army patrol opened fire by mistake
on an Iraqi police patrol that was stopped in the middle of Rahimao Square,
in the northern part of the city, when it heard heavy gunfire in the area.

- Ardi Ali, a Kurd, died on the spot, while Ibrahim Hadi,
a Turkmen, died at the hospital, according to Yussef.

- A coalition spokesman in Baghdad had no immediate information
about the incident.
