- LOS ANGELES (Reuters)
- A strong earthquake measuring 6.5 struck central California on Monday
morning, swaying high rise buildings from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
-
- There were no immediate reports of damage from the temblor,
whose epicenter was located 7 miles from San Simeon, California, the home
of Hearst Castle, one of the major tourist attractions in the state, the
U.S. Geological Survey said.
-
- CNN said the castle was evacuated though it was unclear
whether that was because of damage or as precaution.
-
- Joyce Hamley, a resident of Cambria, California, near
the quake's epicenter said that the temblor had knocked over shelves and
merchandise in her wine and merchandise store.
-
- "Everything in a glass bottle is on the floor,"
she told KABC TV in Los Angeles. "This was a strong quake."
-
- She said: "It was like a big whammy -- all at once."
