- This is for the information of those outside South Africa
who are probably unaware that we are experiencing record temperatures and
extremely dry weather this summer.
-
- We normally get rain in summer. But so far, there has
been very little rain. It was stated that in the Free State (and much of
South Africa), it is the driest since records were kept in 1915... we are
experiencing the worst rains in 88 years...
-
- This is beautiful, coupled with the lack of diesel to
the farmers... If the rains don't improve we could experience a record
drought.
-
- Note, on our daily weather charts - Zimbabwe gets MUCH
MORE RAIN THAN WE DO! But because we do farming properly here, we of course
are less affected than them to a large degree. But the way things are going
this year... it could be bad.
-
- Now there's a tickler... Maize meal is the staple diet
of blacks... so while it will affect food prices in general... it will
actually affect black South Africans (and the white commercial farmers
who feed them) more.
-
- We will see as the season progresses if things get better...
or not... But it could highlight what lies ahead for this country which
likes to hate its commercial farmers.
