- BASRA, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraq's
U.S. administrator Paul Bremer says he escaped an assassination attempt
in Baghdad in early December.
-
- "Yes, this is true, but thankfully I am still alive,
and here I am in front of you," Bremer told reporters on Friday when
asked about media reports that he had survived an assassination attempt
on December 6.
-
- U.S. television network NBC reported on Thursday that
Bremer escaped unharmed when his convoy hit an explosive device and came
under small arms fire as it drove from Baghdad airport. The convoy was
able to speed away and no one was injured.
-
- The incident, which occurred on the same day U.S. Defence
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld arrived in Baghdad, was not reported to the press
by Bremer's Coalition Provisional Authority.
