- MOSUL, Iraq (AFP) -- A US
soldier died when his vehicle ran over a roadside bomb in Mosul, the second
American to be killed in the northern capital, a military spokesman told
AFP.
-
- Three soldiers were also wounded when the improvised
explosive device (IED) went off as a convoy crossed a road junction, said
Major Hugh Cate of the 101st US Airborne Division.
-
- "We have one soldier killed in an IED and three
wounded," on the east side of the river Tigris, Cate told AFP Wednesday.
-
- An AFP correspondent at the scene said the bomb hit the
final vehicle in a convoy of three in the city's Hai Abdubad area.
-
- Drive-by gunmen had earlier shot dead a US soldier and
a Kurdish official and wounded another American soldier in Mosul
-
- "One was killed, one was injured. The dead soldier
died after being medivaced" to the 21st combat hospital in Mosul,
said Cate.
-
- "We had two vehicles drive by and shoot at two sides
of the street. They fired on the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) offices
and they fired on the gas station and then they sped off."
-
- A Kurdish leader in Mosul told AFP one of his officials
had died from the gunmen's fire as he drove out of the office opposite
the gas station also on the city's east side.
-
- The latest deaths brought to 195 the number of US soldiers
killed in combat in Iraq since President George W. Bush declared major
hostilities over on May 1.
