- BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An
American
soldier was killed west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday after his
patrol came under attack from insurgents, the U.S. military said.
-
- In a statement, it said the soldier was wounded by small
arms fire near the town of Habbaniya on Monday morning and died of his
wounds later. The town is a hotbed of anti-American sentiment.
-
- Three Iraqis were captured during the clash and were
being questioned, the statement said. Since President Bush declared an
end to major hostilities in Iraq on May 1, 188 U.S. soldiers have been
killed in combat.
