Car Bomb Kills 10 At Iraq
Police Station

12-14-3

KHALIDIYAH, Iraq (Reuters) - A car bomb ripped through a police station in western Iraq on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens, witnesses and hospital sources said.

Black smoke billowed over the police station in the restive village of Khalidiyah, some 35 miles west of Baghdad as ambulances rushed to the scene and evacuated casualties to the town of Ramadi.

Hospital sources at Ramadi, 70 miles west of the capital, said at least 10 people had been killed and many more wounded in the blast.

The U.S. military in Baghdad confirmed the car bomb attack, saying the blast took place at 8:40 a.m. (0540 GMT).

"There was no coalition casualties," a spokesman said. He did not report any Iraqi casualties.

The bomb was the latest in a string of attacks on Iraqi police and others seen as cooperating with the U.S.-led occupation. Scores of Iraqis have been killed.

U.S.-led forces in Iraq have also come under daily attack since the end of the war that toppled Saddam Hussein in April.
