- Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's son Omri is among eight
serving legislators to have received death threats, and who are under the
personal protection of the Knesset's official security force, Israel Radio
reported Wednesday.
-
- The others were identified as Foreign Affairs and Defense
Committee Chairman Yuval Steinitz, Ehud Yatom, Ayoub Kara and Majali Wahabi,
all of Sharon's Likud, Talab al-Sana (United Arab List), Benjamin Ben-Eliezer
(Labor) and Issam Makhoul (Hadash).
-
- Makhoul was the apparent target of a recent assassination
attempt, in which a bomb was affixed to his car beside his home in Haifa.
The bomb exploded when Makhoul's wife started the car. She survived the
attack.
-
- Police said Tuesday they have no clues as to who set
the bomb.
-
- The Knesset Guard is considering the formation of a special
bodyguards unit, similar to the Shin Bet's VIP bodyguard department.
