- Hello Jeff,
-
- In the news and worthy of note:
-
- Both ABC and CBS news reported as fact the estimate of
Iraq insurgency strength at approximately 5,000 members.
-
- Meanwhile, a CIA report just issued and covered in the
Guardian reports the same number estimated at some 50,000.
-
- This blatant and easily verifiable falsification confirms
the PR function and complicity of the media. Very much reminiscent General
Westmoreland's intentional doctoring of Vietcong troop strength during
Vietnam.
-
- Westmoreland's famous interview with Sixty minutes illustrates
an anologous pattern. The Sixty Minutes/CBS report showed that Westmorland
and the central command deliberately undestated enemy troop strength.
Luring us into a trap with lies and false hopes of success, such parallels
with Vietnam amplify both the tragic similarities between the conflicts
and worry we all fear regarding the outcome.

- Reports the 5,000 number
-
- CBS Evenning News with Dan Rather
- November 13, 2003
- reports the same 5,000 number
-
- Both are said to be quoting US commander Bremmer.
-
- Meanwhile, the London Guardian catches the real scoop
by reporting on the CIA report that plainly contradicts the propaganda
play of the networks. The very existence of the CIA report, an event which
is extremely newsworthy, was censored by US editorial panels, once again
defining the domestic population as the enemy.
