- (AFP) -- An explosion has torn apart an oil pipeline
near Kirkuk, 260 kilometres north of Baghdad, a company official said.
-
- The blast ripped through the pipeline in the region of
Mashruh al-Therthar, south-west of the city of Samarra, said pipeline director
Majid Manun.
-
- "The pipeline feeds the Dora refineries in Baghdad,"
he said.
-
- "I heard a powerful explosion in the evening, and
I saw huge flames coming out of the oil pipeline," witness Hassan
Messarhad said, a 45-year-old farmer.
-
- On Saturday local time, another "sabotage"
explosion ripped through a gas pipeline near Baiji, 225 kilometres north
of Baghdad.
-
- Oil and gas pipelines in the region, a stronghold of
Saddam Hussein, have been targeted in acts of sabotage since the former
president was ousted by a US-led coalition on April 9.
