- (AFP) -- One US soldier was killed and two wounded today
when a military convoy was hit by a roadside bomb near the western Iraqi
town of Ramadi, a US military spokesman said.
-
- An improvised explosive device of the sort favoured by
anti-US insurgents blew up as the convoy passed by east of the town between
2.30 and 3.30pm local time, the spokesman said.
-
- "There was one killed in action and two wounded."
-
- It was the latest in a rash of attacks to target Ramadi
since the local US commander, Major General Charles Swannack, on Tuesday
hailed a major improvement in security that might allow a US troop pullback
by year-end.
-
- A car bomb blast killed two Iraqis and wounded 12 outside
the home of a leading tribal sheikh in the town late yesterday and the
US military said it had aborted four other attacks during the day, killing
eight assailants, wounding five and arresting another.
