- A British soldier has been killed in a road crash near
the city of Basra in southern Iraq.

- The death brings the total number of British soldiers
killed in Iraq to 53.

- A spokesman for British forces said the soldier was from
the Royal Regiment of Wales.

- "I can confirm that a British soldier from RRW died
this morning in Basra following a road traffic accident," he said.

- "There are no indications of hostile action and
no other person or people were hurt."

- The soldier's name will not be released until his family
are informed of his death.
