- CAPE TOWN - A software
developer, Transmetrix, has launched a new program that will allow companies
to track their employees' comings and goings by using fingerprints.
-
- The SuperVision biometric system is one of the country's
first high performance, low cost biometric time and attendance systems.
-
- It uses fingerprint recognition technology to identify
employees and record the amount of time worked, and so helps eliminates
time fraud.
-
- Time fraud, or "buddy punching" happens when
an employee punches in for a colleague who is running late or absent and
is estimated to cost the economy millions of rands each year.
-
- Instead of filling out or punching timecards, employees
place their finger on the SuperVision scanner which identifies them instantly.
-
- The system then exports data on all the hours worked
directly to the employer's payroll program.
-
- The system also gives employers access to real-time information
on the movements and whereabouts of their staff. For example, an employer
can run a report to identify who was late for work.
-
- A media release issued by the company says that the Cape
Town City Council and the Cape Town Cable Car Company, among others, have
all bought the system.
-
- "A strong rand and the global slowdown have forced
employers to look hard at the productivity of their workforce and take
tough decisions about their headcount," said Transmetrix CEO James
Redelinghuys.
-
- "Yet few of the companies currently making or considering
redundancies have even begun to address time fraud.
-
- "By eliminating this time fraud and improving the
efficiency of the whole payroll process companies can expect to see a very
significant improvement in their bottom line," said Redelinghuys.
