near the town of Mosul, where Saddam's forces have retreated under heavy
bombardment in recent days.

- The unit called for assistance and a helicopter was swiftly
dispatched to extract the men from the scene, the Ministry of Defence said.

- Arab TV network Al Jazeera had claimed 10 SAS men were
killed in fierce exchanges with Iraqi troops. The MoD refused to comment
on any casualties.
