Federal Agents Meet
Russian Plane At JFK

10-23-2

Federal agents met a Russian airliner that landed at John F. Kennedy Jr. International Airport Wednesday afternoon, as they sought to interview one or more passengers on board the plane.

The Aeroflot 767 jet, which was en route to New York City from Moscow, was met by agents from the FBI, the U.S. Customs Department and the Port Authority police when it landed shortly after 2:00 p.m.

According to broadcast reports, sources in Moscow told FBI officials they should interrogate one or more passengers on board the plane. However, it is still unclear why the passengers are being questioned.

CNN reported that law enforcement agencies had received indications that suspicious cargo was on board the plane, but the Federal Aviation Administration now confirms that no such cargo was found.

The plane is being held at a remote area of JFK Airport while law enforcement agencies conduct their investigation.

So far, there have been no service disruptions at the airport.
