The Rev. Jerry Falwell will call Islam's founder and most sacred figure, Mohammed, "a terrorist" on 60 MINUTES this Sunday night, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"I think Mohammed was a terrorist. I read enough by both Muslims and non-Muslims, [to decide] that he was a violent man, a man of war," Falwell tells CBS. "In my opinion, Jesus set the example for love, as did Moses, and I think Mohammed set an opposite example."

Falwell hits total controversy while affirming the Christian Right's steadfast support for the state of Israel against its Islamic enemies.

The interview with CBS reporter Bob Simon, in which Falwell hints that the Christian Right influences U.S. government policy toward Israel, has been set for broadcast, network sources say.

MORE

Falwell sent a personal protest to President Bush, and the White House received 100,000 e-mail protests from Christians when Bush urged Israel to remove its forces from Palestinian towns earlier this year. Falwell believes Bush is well aware of the Christian constituency. "There are 70 million of us,[and] there's nothing that would bring the wrath of the Christian public in this country down on this government like abandoning or opposing Israel on a critical matter," Falwell tells Simon.

Falwell and conservative Christians support the Israelis and condemn their enemies because they believe the triumph of Israel is God's will. The Jews, return to their ancient homeland - and sole ownership of the territories Arabs and Israelis both lay claim to -- is a precondition for the second coming of Christ, according to the Fundamentalist Evangelical Christians' interpretation of the Bible. The Biblical scenario is not a savory one for many Jews, however.
"God save us from these people," says Israeli political analyst Yossi Alpher. "When you see what these people are encouraging Israel and the U.S. to do -ignore the Palestinians, kick them out - they are leading us into a scenario of out-and-out disaster," he tells Simon.

But disaster is part of the scenario. Many Fundamentalist Evangelicals believe there will be catastrophic events on earth, some occurring already, including the turmoil in the Middle East, culminating in the Battle of Armageddon in which Christ will triumph and begin ruling the earth. At this point, they believe, non-believers will be destroyed, good Christians saved and any remaining Jews converted to Christianity.

Says Ed McAteer, a founder of the Moral Majority and known as the godfather of the Christian Right, "I believe that we are seeing prophecy unfold so rapidly and dramatically and wonderfully, and, without exaggeration, [it] makes me breathless."

Jerry Falwell, Another Solomon Rushdie :

Again, a so-called American Christian (Evangelical) leader came forth to insult Islam and the Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him). This time, it was Jerry Falwell. Jerry Falwell is one of those evil men that wants to topple the Grand Mosque or Masjid Al-Aqsa which rests upon al-Haram al-Sharif as known to Muslims and as Temple Mount to Jews, and build in its place the Temple of Solomon. That is why, he and Gary Bauer among others support the murderous policies of Ariel Sharon to expel the Muslims in Palestine to other Arab Lands, destroy the Masjid Al-Aqsa and set in motion a religious war, or start the clash of civilizations. In fact, Falwell and his like constitute the backbone of the state of Israel. Falwell and his flock criticized G W Bush after Bush demanded from Sharon to pull his army from the Palestinian areas.

Bigots such as Falwell enrage Muslims whose rage sometimes take the form of a tragedy wherein innocent Americans become victims. Falwell's bigot statement grants justification and credence to the fetwas of individuals such as Osama bin Laden, after all Falwell represents a great number of people in this country. Statements by Falwell and his like are geared toward their long awaiting goal of the clash of civilizations whose outcome supposedly justifies Falwell's pathetic definition of religion. In reality, Falwell is not a true Christian but rather someone hiding behind the name of Christ.

It is important to realize that Falwell is supported by many Think Tanks in the United States. These Think Tanks need falsehoods such as Jerry Falwell pronouncing justification for their devilish designs of the clash of civilization.

In fact, the coup of September 11 was launched by these elements from within the United States to serve as the main trigger for the onslaught of the clash of civilization. Osama bin Laden and his group do not possess the sophistication to pull off such an extremely well planned and executed operation as that of September 11, 2001. The tragedy is that these evangelical elements and their associated Think Tanks use the emotions of the people of this country and sacrifice thousands here and abroad to fulfill their evil designs.

Already, there are cries all over the Muslim World longing for another Ayatullah Khomaini to surface and cast a similar fetwa as that pronounced against Solomon Rushdie, I am afraid they are within their rights to do so. One would hope that characters as Falwell and his like would have learned from Rushdie's experience, but apparently not. Therefore, the world should not criticize if another Khomaini emerge and his judgement, condemning Falwell, after all for anyone to insult the Greatest Human Being, Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him), ever walked the face of earth should have known the cost of such irresponsible behavior.

In light of the current political tragedies, religious leaders, irrespective of their religious background should play constructive roles rather than advocate disasters!!

Mr. Miraki!

What you are saying here is everyone must speak in such a way that pleases a Muslim or one will (or a people will -- or a nation will) suffer violent consequences such as 911. This is NOT acceptable. No matter how horrible the speech of any man is, violence against another is very simply Anti-God. As a Muslim, you should know this. As a Muslim, you should not support or encourage it or claim it is justified. Just because Falwell is a racist or a bigot or an ignorant man or even a liar by no means justifies, as you put it, the "rage sometimes take the form of a tragedy wherein innocent Americans become victims." Such is utterly unacceptable. Do you not realize this is precisely what is called "terrorist speech"?? It is one thing to condemn a man who is unrighteous for his unrighteousness, but to justify unrighteousness BY or BECAUSE of it is an even greater evil. Bigots in America don't get "contained." We have free speech here. A person has a right to say whatever they choose, and should be free to do so without fear of a building blowing up or innocent school children being torn to shreds by a bomb in an ice cream parlour because some equally misguided fundamentalists can't tolerate free speech. It's bad enough that we have a questionable government involvement in 911 and knee deep in the Zionist affairs in the Mid-East. You are part of the problem, not part of the solution. You are as radically off base as Falwell is.

Mr. Raines:

I can appreciate your comments in regards to free speech. I am also advocating free speech, however, such language as that by Falwell brings forth disorder and misery. I would be the last person on earth to advocate any thing that might harm other human beings. I was merely pointing to the potential for disaster. I am sure you know that Falwell's statement is not an isolated event, this has been going on for quite sometimes, different figures coming forth and insulting Islam and the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
