- CHICAGO (UPI) -- Illinois
and Michigan Friday reported three new West Nile deaths, bringing the toll
in each state to 43 and 33, respectively -- the two highest in the nation.

- The latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
figures put the national death toll at 173 in 3,174 cases. The CDC figures
did not include the latest reports out of Illinois and Michigan.

- The latest Illinois case was an 88-year-old suburban
Chicago woman who became ill Sept. 13 and died Sept. 26. The state has
reported 691 cases -- more than 20 percent of the national total.

- The 33 Michigan deaths occurred in 455 cases of the mosquito-borne
disease.
