- ATLANTA (UPI) -- The Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention Monday reported at least 146 people
have died from West Nile virus this year and 2,736 people have contracted
the disease.

- After the CDC figures came out, Louisiana reported its
15th West Nile death, a 70-year-old man from the Baton Rouge area, and
boosted its caseload to 293. Tennessee reported a 60-year-old Davidson
County man died from the mosquito-borne disease, becoming the state's sixth
victim.

- Illinois leads the nation in West Nile deaths with 36
in 640 cases, followed by Michigan with 28 deaths in 401 cases. Louisiana
has the third highest totals.
