- Those who have read the writings of Immanuel Velikovsky
will recall that according to his theories Mars, Venus, and Earth once
traded massive electrical bolts during periods of near collision. According
to Velikovsky many of the rills on Mars are the result of massive electrical
bolts.

- Fulgurites are created when lighting discharges melt
various types of sand or sediment in tube-like patterns. While small fulgurites
seen up close will look chunky with grit on them, massive ones seen from
space would indeed appear smooth. Perhaps Velikovsky was not so far off
when he stated that Mars was hit by interplanetary lighting discharges.
