-
- Friends and family members of the legendary tenor wanted
to help realize Lanza,s dream of starting a foundation to aid aspiring
young opera singers so they founded the Mario Lanza Institute. Through
the years the Institute has awarded over 200 scholarships at its Annual
Ball and many of the recipients have gone on to achieve great success in
their careers. Some of the more recent winners including Juan Diego Florez,
Joyce Di Donato, and James Valenti are enjoying international notoriety
in their careers.
-
- Mario Lanza was a uniquely gifted performer whose talent
encompassed all types of music. He had the uncanny ability of making what
ever he sang sound as if it were written specifically for him. Although
his career was brief and his life ended in 1959 at the tender age of 38
due to a series of heart attacks, his memory lives on through his legacy
of recordings and films and in the hearts of his legions of fans. Lanza
was the inspiration of many of today's leading singers and will be the
inspiration of the singers of tomorrow thanks to the hard work of the fine
people at the Mario Lanza Institute who help to perpetuate his memory and
dream.
-
- Tickets are $25.00 and all proceeds benefit the Mario
Lanza Scholarship Fund. Free parking on the school grounds. For more
