- Although I could not find Kathryn Grayson's
name listed as a guest, Mario announced her as: "Speaking of Kathryn
Grayson, here is the young lady herself to sing Jerome Kern's 'Can't Help
Lovin' Dat Man O' Mine.' Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Kathryn Grayson!"
-
- After Miss Grayson's singing, Mario said:
"And I can't help lovin' any girl named Kathryn Grayson who can sing
like that." To which Miss Grayson replied: "Thank you, Mario,
what a clever and complicated compliment, or was it a compliment?"
Mario's answer: "Yes, it was."
-
- Mario and Kathryn Grayson then sang "They
Didn't Believe Me." Mario then went on to sing "MAMA MIA."
-
- I especially like one particular line
where Mario is asked this question from Pasquale: "You really kiss
Kathryn Grayson in that Picture?" Mario's reply: "Well, somebody
kissed her and it wasn't Larry Parks!"
-
- Kathryn Grayson was Mario's favorite
co-star, actress and friend. Til today, Kathryn Grayson is loved by Damon
and myself. She is a lady of class beyond belief. She was there for the
family when Mario passed away and she was there when Betty passed away.
-
- I personally remember, at Marc's funeral,
Ms. Grayson was standing just outside the Holy Cross Mausoleum where Mario
and Betty, as well as, Mary, Tony and now Colleen are laid to rest. Someone
approached me asking, "Excuse me, but who is that beautiful lady standing
there with those other people?" I looked over and saw it was Kathryn.
I replied, "That's Kathryn Grayson." The person's reply was simply
that she was most outstanding, and looked to be a lady with great class.
How right they were.
-
- I first met Kathryn in 1963, and, as
if it were yesterday, I remember her warm greeting and beautiful smile.
I could see why Mario and Betty considered her their very best friend,
and I could see why Mary and Tony loved her so much. She was, and is, a
lady of absolute class and distinction. She is our friend.
