Mario Lanza Society Of New York Annual Dinner Bill Ronayne wjronayne@juno.com 5-4-5     New York (May 3, 2005) -- The Mario Lanza Society of New York has scheduled its annual dinner in tribute to the late tenor for June 4 at 1 P.M. at Patsy's Restaurant (236 West 56th Street). Among those saluting Lanza's career will be Lauren and Joseph Musumeci, the world's youngest opera singers, and tenor Aaron Caruso. All three are back by popular demand and will perform live. The musical program will also consist of rare archival recordings of Mario Lanza.   Soprano Lauren Musumeci and her tenor brother Joseph Musumeci, 17 and 12 respectively, are from Philadelphia and are making their second appearance with The Mario Lanza Society of New York. They were inspired to sing opera after seeing a video of Mario Lanza in The Great Caruso and have appeared on radio, TV, and around the country to great acclaim. Most recently Lauren and Joseph sang for Donald Trump,s birthday party in Atlantic City at the Taj Mahal Casino and Hotel. They were the grand marshals for the Christmas in New York,s Little Italy parade in December and also appeared in April on the Variety Children's Telethon with Cousin Brucie, Michael Bolton, and Andrea Marcovici among others.   Still in his twenties, tenor Aaron Caruso is originally from Detroit, Michigan and began singing at a very early age. He, too, is inspired by Mario Lanza and has appeared around the country to enthusiastic audiences in concert, at music festivals, and also in benefits for Italian American organizations. This is his third appearance with The Mario Lanza Society of New York.   Since its inception, The Mario Lanza Society of New York, with a mission of promoting and preserving Lanza's memory, has grown to over 150 members worldwide. The Society publishes a very well-received 16-page newsletter, The Legacy of Mario Lanza, which contains articles about the late tenor's career, his recordings, and event information.   Honorary members include Golden Age of Musicals MGM star Kathryn Grayson, who appeared with Lanza in two films, Elaine Malbin who sang duets with Lanza on his second album the RCA Red Seal soundtrack recording for Toast of New Orleans, and Lanza's son Damon who promotes his father through his newsletter Lanza Legend and on his web site of the same name.   Membership in the society is $20 annually in the U.S. and $25 for outside the country. Members receive a subscription to four issues of The Legacy of Mario Lanza and an invitation to all club events.   The June 4th annual dinner will feature a three-course menu with a cash bar. Admission is $50 for club members and $60 for nonmembers. Seating is limited.
