- A 36-year-old Norwegian citizen who's originally from
Lebanon is in custody after he stood outside the Israeli embassy in Oslo
this week and started yelling. His shouts were deemed to be threats, and
the man was quickly arrested.
-
- The man took up his position at mid-day on Wednesday
and let loose with a verbal assault in English, according to newspaper
Dagbladet.
-
- Among his shouts: "I'll kill you all" and "I'll
take care of Sharon," a reference to the upcoming visit of Israeli
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later this month.
-
- Norwegian police who stand guard at the embassy on Parkveien,
just behind the Royal Palace, arrested the man and put him in handcuffs.
-
- On Thursday he was formally charged with offending a
foreign state along with making threats, and put into custody for four
weeks.
-
- He faces up to 15 years in prison. His public defender
said the defendant "merely was expressing his opinions." He added
that his client "clearly isn't pleased by the fact that Sharon is
coming to Norway."
-
- Sharon is scheduled to make a day trip to Norway on July
16 for talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.
