Russia Blasts Fake US Diplomacy

Washington doesn’t negotiate. It bullies other nations to support its imperial agenda - threats its favorite tactic to get its way.

Thursday’s Security Council debate on dueling Russia/US resolutions on extending the OPCW/UN Joint Investigation Mechanism (JIM) is the latest example.

Moscow’s resolution was fair and balanced, Washington’s a covert attempt to justify greater war by falsely blaming Syria for CW attacks it didn’t commit.

Sergey Lavrov blasted Washington, saying “we are witnessing a new phenomenon in international relations…(A)part from fake news, there is also fake diplomacy.”

Russia’s draft resolution on CW use in Syria “contained all the necessary amendments that need to be introduced into the activities of the (JIM) to ensure that it is honest and objective.”

“As the US and its allies have vetoed the document, it means that they don’t want (the JIM) to be an honest and effective one.”

Ahead of Thursday’s vote, Lavrov called Washington’s resolution “absolutely unacceptable. For this reason, (it) has no chance at all for being adopted.” Yet Nikki Haley called a vote anyway, instead of cooperating on passing Russia’s workable and effective resolution.

Former pre-war Syrian ambassador to Washington Imad Moustapha said it’s well-known that ISIS and so-called “moderate rebels” use CWs against civilians and government forces.

“As long as the US and its Western allies collude with these groups whenever they stage a new chemical attack, immediately accusing…Syria of perpetrating these attacks, and penalizing (its government) for what the terrorist groups have committed, then we will see no end to these attacks.”

Trump administration senior director for weapons of mass destruction and counterproliferation Christopher Ford said regional CW use by ISIS and other terrorist groups is “business as usual.”

On Friday, a closed-door Security Council session will be held, discussing a possible new resolution on the JIM’s mandate.

Drafted by Japan, it calls for a 30-day JIM extension - 30 or 300 days won’t help as long as Washington wants war, not peace, and the OPCW/JIM operates as a US imperial agent.

Separately, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its aerial operations destroyed over 1,250 ISIS assets during the past week.

Over 500 sorties were flown along with hundreds of reconnaissance missions, detecting targets to be struck.

Russian aerial operations included missions conducted by six long-range Tu-22M3 supersonic bombers - Su-30 warplanes accompanying them, flying from Khmeimim airbase in Syria. ISIS targets in Deir Ezzor province and along the Syrian/Iraqi border were destroyed.

Pentagon commanders rejected Russia’s proposal to conduct joint operations against the terrorist group. America won’t attack fighters it supports.
