Putin/Trump Meeting at APEC Summit in Vietnam?

It should be a no-brainer. A formal bilateral summit should have been held months ago.

Co-opted by America’s military/industrial complex, Trump is hostage to its agenda, prevented from normalizing ties with Russia - relations more dismal than any time in memory, US-launched nuclear war a disturbing possibility.

Attendees at the November 11-12  summit in Danang include leaders from 21 nations, mostly Asian ones, along with others from Canada, Mexico, Peru and America, Trump involved for the first time, Putin a repeat participant.

On Saturday, Typhoon Damrey struck Vietnam with deadly force, killing dozens, tens of thousands evacuated from affected areas.

According to local authorities, around 40,000 homes were damaged, hundreds destroyed, Floodwaters rose very fast.

The eye of the storm struck about 60 miles from the summit’s location. A Welcome to Danang sign collapsed from heavy winds.

A massive cleanup effort is underway, no easy task as heavy rains are expected to continue at least until Tuesday, affecting the city.

Before departing on his Asian trip to five regional countries, Trump said “(w)e may have a meeting with Putin,” adding:

“He’s very important because they can help us with North Korea. They can help us with Syria. We have to talk about Ukraine.”

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a possible Putin/Trump meeting is “being coordinated now. (Its important because) all international affairs can hardly be overestimated.”

An announcement will be made once it’s known either way if a formal meeting will be held. Both leaders will surely meet. They’ll be in the same place at the same time. It’s unclear whether formal summit talks will take place.

Trump blamed Congress for US relations with Russia “at an all-time…very dangerous low.” He called investigations into alleged collusion of his election campaign with Russia last year “a disgrace.”

The deplorable bipartisan state of things in America make normalized relations with Russia unattainable.

Possible war is much more likely, by accident or design, the fault lying squarely in Washington, not Moscow.
