Phony Accusation of Russia
Hacking Britain’s Power Grid

Accusations last month alleging hackers allied with Moscow devised a cyberweapon, threatening America’s power grid were as phony as others claiming Russian US election interference.

The Kremlin poses no military, political, economic or technological threat to America or any other country. Throughout its post-Soviet existence, it never attacked another country.

It’s sought good relations and mutual cooperation with all nations - the cold, hard truth Western media suppress, instead maintaining a steady drumbeat of unacceptable hostility toward Russia.

On July 16, Sunday Times of London disinformation claimed “(h)ackers backed by the Russian government have attacked energy networks running the national grid in parts of the UK,” adding:

They “targeted the Republic of Ireland’s energy sector, intended to infiltrate control systems, security analysts believe. This would also have given them the power to knock out parts of the grid in Northern Ireland.”

The report is absurd on its face. Why would Moscow want to disrupt or knock out part of Ireland’s power grid? Or the power system of any other country?

The Sunday Times claiming alleged hackers “have ties to the Kremlin’s GRU intelligence agency” was willful deception.

Saying “(t)here is no evidence of disruption to the network” indicates the report was malicious disinformation - along with claiming “hackers probably stole information including passwords.”

Ireland’s National Cyber Security Center is examining what didn’t happen, nor is any Russian cyberattack on any nation’s power grid likely at any time. Claiming the threat exists is a bald-faced Big Lie like so many others targeting the Kremlin.

The Sunday Times: “Security experts said that Ireland was being used as a testing ground for cyberwarfare by GRU teams and potentially as one of several EU countries Russia may seek to destabilise.”

“It is also an important base for many US technology giants, including Facebook and Apple. US officials confirmed last week that Russian government hacking teams penetrated American nuclear and other energy companies.”

Fact: False on all counts! Where’s the proof? None exists. Accusations without evidence are groundless. Against Russia, they repeat with disturbing regularity.

In response to The Sunday Times claim, Russia’s UK embassy tweeted “Journalism is getting rid of outdated concepts like evidence.”

Russia’s repeated denials of involvement in cyber attacks against any nation are ignored. False claims persist, blaming Moscow for all sorts of things it had nothing to do with.

A Final Comment

Commenting on phony claims about Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya having ties to the Kremlim, Sergey Lavrov deftly rejected them, saying:

“It was with amused disbelief that I heard about Donald Trump Jr. being accused of dealings with this Russian lawyer.”

“In my opinion, this is absurd. Why should dealing with a lawyer become a problem or a threat to anyone?”

“I did not know anything about this until I read the news item to this effect and saw a television report yesterday. As I switched my television set on this morning, I learned that it was all over the Western media.”

“It is surprising that serious people can make a mountain from a molehill. And maybe there was not even a molehill in this case.”

Lavrov is a world-class diplomat, outclassing his Western counterparts - especially US ones he’s forced to deal with, a disturbing experience for anyone.
