New Ebola Case In Liberia

From Patricia Doyle

Hello Jeff - I do not believe we have heard the last of the West African strain of the Zaire like Ebola virus.

It is sexually transmitted now and I am sure there have been cases that have gone unnoticed.

It is possible that a family member of the 10 year old patient has had Ebola.

We have not had a recent report from the WHO on the two suspected cases of Ebola in sick migrants in Europe who exhibited Ebola symptoms and were tested. I would imagine if the test was negative we would have heard about the result.

Europe would not want to create any anti migrant sentiment and that might be why we have not had a result to the Ebola testing.

New Ebola Case Found in Liberia

11-20-15

Health workers in central Africa were dealt a blow on Friday, with a new case of Ebola being discovered in Liberia.

The country had been declared free of the virus on 3 September 2015.

An unnamed official told Reuters that a 10-year-old boy from suburban Monrovia was diagnosed this week.

The country had previously seen 4,808 deaths from 10,600 Ebola cases since it was first discovered there in March 2014.

More than 11,000 people have been killed by the outbreak in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Of the three countries, Liberia was the first to be declared Ebola-free. Sierra Leone followed suit on 7 November, and Guinea is in the middle of its countdown to declaring itself free of the virus.

The 42-day countdown to being Ebola-free begins after the last infected person tests negative twice, with the tests 48 hours apart.
