Hollow Papal Shock Over Nuns
and Others Killed in Yemen

On Friday, likely US/Saudi-backed ISIS fighters attacked a retirement home in Aden, Yemen, killing four nuns and a dozen others - a ruthless act of terror.

ISIS claimed responsibility for other Aden attacks, including a suicide bombing killing the city’s governor. Other area officials were assassinated.

No group claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack. US/Saudi-backed ISIS fighters had motive and opportunity. They reign terror on defenseless civilians wherever they’re located.

On Saturday, Pope Francis through Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin expressed shock and profound sadness.

He sent “prayers for the dead and his spiritual closeness to their families and to all affected from this act of senseless and diabolical violence.”

Before becoming Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he supported Argentina’s military dictatorship, its dirty war, waged to benefit wealth and power interests at the expense of social and political justice.

As pope since March 2013, he ignored US-led NATO aggression, its support for ISIS and other terrorist groups - raping and destroying one country after another, responsible for millions of deaths.

Are their lives less important than Friday’s 16 Yemeni victims? He’s been virtually silent about Israel’s war on Palestine, its longstanding reign of terror, extrajudicial assassinations, torture, and apartheid viciousness worse than South Africa’s.

He’s said nothing about US killer cops, operating with impunity, turning Black and Latino communities into battlegrounds, getting away with murder - free to kill again.

He failed to blame Washington for the gravest refugee crisis since WW II. Its endless wars forced millions of desperate people to flee for safe havens internally and abroad - hundreds of thousands risking their lives on hazardous journeys, unknown numbers perishing en route.

They’re unwanted, treated like nonpersons, met with scorn, barbed wire fences and other barriers on arrival, attacked with tear gas when protesting for desperately needed help.

Why hasn’t Pope Francis travelled to their hellish refugee camps, stood with them in solidarity.

Why hasn’t he supported their rights and needs, instead of touring South America and Mexico - papal junkets doing nothing to end imperial wars, nothing to relieve human suffering, nothing to address unmet vital needs, nothing supporting justice over US-led Western high crimes.

Papal shock and sadness over Friday’s Yemeni killings belies its indifference about US-led worldwide mass slaughter, millions victimized by its viciousness - no Vatican statement condemning “diabolical violence.”
