Heading for War on Russia

By Stephen Lendman
5-19-17

America’s imperial agenda threatens world peace. Its bases surrounding Russia and China are platforms for aggressive wars - likely nuclear if launched against one or both countries.

Dangerous flashpoints exist along their borders, in Syria, Ukraine, the Korean peninsula and elsewhere.

America’s megalomaniacal rage for dominance is humanity’s greatest menace, nuclear war almost certain if its madness isn’t curbed - a slim chance with neocons infesting Washington, thriving on endless aggression, deploring peace and stability.

America’s imperial agenda should terrify everyone, a permanent war policy targeting all sovereign independent states for regime change, willing to risk destroying planet earth to own it - Russia and China the final frontier challenging its recklessness.

The bipartisan Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) includes congressional, defense and State Department officials.

Hawkish members along with Pentagon commanders urge greater numbers of US combat troops in Europe to deter nonexistent “Russian aggression” - a provocative plan risking direct confrontation.

Days ahead of Trump’s FY 2018 budget rollout, they urged a greater US conventional force buildup in Eastern Europe.

Former deputy assistant defense secretary for Ukraine and Russia Michael Carpenter expressed “support (for) deploying on a permanent basis an additional (armored) brigade combat team.”

“Having armor, especially on the eastern flank of the Baltic states would be a large deterrent for Russia, especially manned by Americans as opposed to the multinational brigades,”he blustered. “There is nothing that substitutes for American presence on the Eastern flank” - despite no Russian threat justifying it.

Last week, NATO commander General Curtis Scaparrotti, in congressional testimony, said NATO forces are “returning to our historic role as a warfighting command” to deter nonexistent “Russian aggression.”

Russophobic former US ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer hype the need “to enhance (NATO’s) conventional deterrence and defense capabilities in the Baltic region and central Europe” - despite no threat justifying it.

Reckless policies advocated by neocons in Washington and hawkish generals escalate the risk of direct confrontation with Russia - the unthinkable possibility of catastrophic nuclear war, risking humanity’s survival.
