GOP, Corporate, Media Conspire To Dump Trump

Never before in US political history has so much muscle, big money and determination gone into undermining the campaign of an aspirant to America’s highest office.

Scores of GOP faithful say they’ll support Hillary Clinton if he’s nominated. Neocons infesting the party fear they’ll be unable to control him.

Millions of dollars are being spent on Trump bashing attack ads in key battleground states Florida, Ohio and Illinois holding March 15 primaries.

On March 7, the Huffington Post (HP) reported on “(b)illionaires, tech CEOs and top members of the Republican establishment” attending a secret meeting at an offshore Sea Island, GA resort - discussing the possibility of a Trump presidency.

Well known figures included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google co-founder Larry Page, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, former Bush political advisor Karl Rove, NYT publisher Arthur Sulzberger, and many others.

HP quoted permanent war advocacy group Project for the New American Century (renamed the Foreign Policy Initiative) co-founder William Kristol, saying:

The “specter (of Donald Trump) was haunting the (American Enterprise Institute’s - AEI) World Forum,” the secretive meeting’s venue. Borrowing the Communist Manifesto opening lines, he added:

“There was much unhappiness about his emergence, a good deal of talk, some of it insightful and thoughtful, about why he's done so well, and many expressions of hope that he would be defeated.”

Despite unprecedented GOP, corporate and scoundrel media pillorying, he’s shown remarkable resilience, whether able to maintain it and win his party’s nomination remains to be seen.

HP called Karl Rove’s presentation a forum highlight, focusing on Trump’s alleged weaknesses, claiming voters don’t see him a “presidential,” saying he’s too erratic to have his finger on the nuclear trigger.

“Sources familiar with (AEI’s forum) - who requested anonymity because (discussions are) off the record - said that much of the conversation around Trump centered on ‘how this happened, rather than how are we going to stop him,’ “ according to one attendee.

FAA records showed “a fleet of private jets flew into and out of two small airports near Sea Island” last weekend - fourfold the previous Sunday’s total, HP reported.

AEI spokeswoman Judy Stecker explained its annual forum is private, off-the-record, a gathering of influential government, business, media and other figures.

Dealing with a possible Trump presidency topped this year’s agenda. The fullness of time will tell whether he’s able to sustain momentum and win his party’s nomination, then on to November to compete for the presidency - a remarkable story, for better or worse, however things turn out.
