Earthquake activity in the El Hierro area is on the
increase. Over 280 earthquakes have been reported in the last 72 hours.
Only 26 earthquakes had occured in the month of March until a spike beginning
March 14 began. March 14th saw 91 earthquakes, March 15th saw 147. At
the time of this posting, 50 earthquakes have been reported so far for
today, March 16, 2014.
Mid March of 2013 saw a similar uptick. Up until the 18th of March, 2013,
there had been a total of 31 earthquakes in the area. Then, on the 18th,
there were 160, then 118 on the 19th. The total number
of earthquakes in March 2013 was 517. As of March 15th, 2014, there have
been 262 earthquakes in the area so far.
