US Warplanes Terror-Bomb Syrian Military Forces

On September 17, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the following:

“The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces said that US alliance aircrafts targeted at 5 PM on Saturday a Syrian Arab Army position in al-Tharda Mountain in the surroundings of Deir Ezzor Airport, causing losses in lives and equipment and clearly paved the way for ISIS terrorists to attack the position and take control of it.”

“(T)his act is a serious and blatant aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic and its army, and constitutes conclusive evidence that the United States and its allies support ISIS and other terrorist organization…reveal(ing) the falseness of their claims of fighting terrorism.”

Syria’s Foreign Ministry formally complained to Ban Ki-moon and the Security Council, citing “cowardly US aggression” - a futile effort like numerous times before, falling on deaf ears, high crimes committed by Washington and its rogue allies ignored and supported by failing to condemn them and hold responsible parties accountable, victims blamed for their own suffering and misery.

Four US warplanes conducted multiple airstrikes near Deir ez-Zor. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported 62 Syrian soldiers killed, over 100 injured.

Make no mistake. The attack was willful aggression, more evidence showing Washington backs ISIS and other terrorist groups against Syrian sovereign independence, along with clear proof US policymakers intend no cooperation with Russia for ceasefire leading to diplomatic conflict resolution.

A Saturday US Defense Department statement on what happened was typical Pentagon coverup and denial when US forces are caught red-handed committing crimes of war and against humanity, saying it’s “still trying to determine all the facts…(I)f we mistakenly struck a Syrian military position we regret doing so, especially the loss of lives.”

This explanation and numerous others like it in all US war theaters ring hollow. Millions of corpses reveal Washington’s imperial viciousness.

US forces operate illegally in Syria. All US wars violate international, constitutional and US statute laws. America remains unaccountable for naked aggression in all its post-WW II conflicts - waged against nonbelligerent countries threatening no one.

Terror-bombing Syrian forces Saturday aided ISIS fighters Washington supports. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, “(i)mmediately after the airstrike by coalition planes, Islamic State militants launched their offensive. Fierce fighting with the terrorists is currently underway…”

After the incident, an emergency closed-door Security Council meeting was convened at Russia’s request. Speaking to reporters, its UN envoy Vitaly Churkin called what happened no honest mistake, saying:

“It is highly suspicious that the United States chose to conduct the particular air strike at this time” where Syrian forces were concentrated.

“It was quite significant and not accidental that it happened just two days before the Russian-American arrangements were supposed to come into full force (on Monday, September 19).”

“The beginning of work of the Joint Implementation Group was supposed to be September 19. So if the US wanted to conduct an effective strike on Al-Nusra or ISIS, in Deir ez-Zor or anywhere else, they could wait two more days and coordinate with our military and be sure that they are striking the right people. Instead they chose to conduct this reckless operation.”

“So…one has to conclude…the airstrike (was) conducted…to (undermine) the operation of the Joint Implementation Group and (prevent) it (from being) set in motion.”

Washington deliberately breached Geneva terms. According to Churkin, it “violated commitments to cease fire which were agreed together with us in February and reaffirmed in the last days.”

It “violated (its) commitment to the government of Syria…g(iven) when launching their air operation…They promised (never to strike) Syrian government forces.”

Churkin barely stopped short of accusing Washington of wanting endless war - not ceasefire, not conflict resolution, not helping long-suffering Syrians receive desperately needed aid.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman was bluntly forthright, saying “(i)f earlier we had suspicions that the Nusra Front is protected this way, now after today’s airstrikes on the Syrian army we come to a really terrifying conclusion for the entire world: the White House is defending” ISIS.

Geneva is dead. Pretense otherwise is self-delusion. Syrian and Russian forces should abandon the charade, declare war on all anti-government forces, go all-out to smash them, and stop wasting time striking meaningless deals Washington breaches straightaway every time.

A Final Comment

A previous article explained a year ago US attack on Syrian forces, saying:

On September 11 (2015), a publication called Russian Spring reported US unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks on Syrian military positions - “disguised as an airstrike on ISIS.”

Syrian journalists learned details of what’s happening. Numerous civilians were killed. According to Syrian military sources, covert US drone strikes against its forces and positions happened before, part of Washington’s phony war on ISIS.

Saturday was the latest incident, more serious because it flagrantly breached Geneva ceasefire terms, rendering them null and void.

They call for joint Moscow and Washington efforts to stabilize conditions in Syria, a step toward conflict resolution. They stipulate both countries working together to defeat ISIS and al-Nusra. Saturday’s breach again proved negotiating with America is self-defeating. It’s word means nothing.
