Russia Slams US Coverup of Mosul Carnage

By Stephen Lendman

Previous articles explained Pentagon-orchestrated responsibility for mass slaughter and destruction in Mosul - since terror-bombing and Iraqi ground operations began last October.

Thousands of civilians in harm’s way were massacred. Carnage continues daily - suppressed by the Pentagon and media scoundrels.

On April 2, Tass said the US-led coalition in Mosul is “hid(ing) war crimes,” causing civilian deaths and suffering.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov slammed “(a)bsured statements of the Pentagon representatives, justifying civil(ian) casualties caused by American bombing in Iraq…”

He called for “more information on the operation (and) alleged supremacy of the American ‘smart’ bombs.”

Why does the Pentagon maintain a “veil of confidentiality (and) secre(cy),” he asked?

“(W)hy (did) the US-led coalition (bomb) buildings with civilians (inside), dooming them to a terrible death?”

Why doesn’t America exercise extreme caution to avoid civilian casualties - the way Russia and government forces operate in Syria, notably in the liberation of Aleppo?

It’s absurd to call US-led operations in Mosul “humanitarian,” Konashenkov stressed.

“In Aleppo, the aircraft of the Russian air force was not applied at all. All the attention was focused on the work of humanitarian passages, as well as the delivery and provision of comprehensive care to local residents.”

“In Mosul, according to a spokesman for (the US-led) coalition (Col.) Joseph Scrocca, despite the civilian casualties, the coalition ‘does not intend to retreat even when the battle is heavy.’ “

Falsely claiming a “humanitarian” mission, or simply easing the suffering of civilians” is belied by mass slaughter and destruction on the ground.

On April 3, RT said the Iraqi army “censor(s) and suppress(es)” coverage of US-led operations in Mosul.

Correspondent Murad Gazdiev and his crew were “warned…not to film what is being done to the city.”

“(U)ndesirable footage “ is confiscated. Journalists are “threatened with bans for negative coverage.”

“Information is contained. One of the biggest and deadliest battles of the 21st century is…one of the most censored and suppressed.”

According to Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), scoundrel media headlines “downplay US responsibility for Mosul massacre” - referring to March 17 US-led terror-bombing slaughtering hundreds of civilians, carnage continuing daily, civilians harmed most of all.

“(Y)ou’d think hundreds of Iraqi civilians coincidentally died in the same location that…happened to be hit by a US airstrike,” said FAIR.

Notably despicable was an ABC News March 25 headline, saying “US Reviewing Airstrike That Corresponds to Site Where 200 Iraqi Civilians Allegedly Died,” FAIR noted.

A NYT March 29 headline downplayed what happened, saying “US Concedes It Played Role in Iraqi Deaths” - failing to explain its “role” was responsibility for massacring civilians.

Other scoundrel media accounts throughout months of conflict failed to hold Washington and its rogue allies accountable for high crimes of war and against humanity.

Sanitized reports substitute for truth-telling. “This is how US media operate,” FAIR explained - notably in US imperial war theaters.
